*(thoughts will be 'like this')

[sunghoon]

1962.

mrs.oh was a very elegant but strict lady in her 40's. it's been over a month since she found the boy barely conscious, staring at void nothingness with a pair of lost and sad eyes. right there and then, as she locked eyes with the young boy, she saw her own youth. the days of struggle within that resulted in the isolated life she's leading now.

she didn't know what happened to the boy or where he came from, but that didn't matter. it was a chance for her to provide the help she once needed but never got. maybe that way, she can finally let go of her past. so she reached out to him, cautiously.

although mrs.oh and sunghoon didn't talk with each other a lot, the comforting silence provided both of them a wall of protection from each other.

...

mrs.oh goes to the town every once in a while to collect necessities or medicine, but it was different to have someone accompanying her. it was clear to her that the boy wasn't familiar or comfortable with the town life, but his attention was drawn to a certain place.

"you can wait for me here if you'd like." mrs.oh said, but got a short but firm "no" in response. however, that day, sunghoon fell in love with ice-skating so much that he returned to the town alone to spent the whole night gliding and spinning around on the ice.

present

"park sunghoon, you have quite the reputation for being a young athlete without a coach or any form of support which is not common for a professional athletes. on top of that, you only started competing a year ago which is a very short period, so what do you think was the key to be ranked among the top 10 figure skaters in Korea at the moment?" an interviewer asks and directs the mic to the tall, pale and exceptionally attractive young guy.

"although it was small, i did have the most genuine support since day one. and now, i have so many supporters who i can never be thankful enough. i don't think there's any other special reason,"

'except for the fact that i've been doing this for almost 50 years' he thought,

"i just enjoy the freedom i feel when i'm on ice, so i spent most of my life on ice and just decided to wait until i was confident enough in my skills to compete." sunghoon answers with a friendly smile which he knows is very important when he's around camera.

freedom. the ironic part of this was that the only way for him to feel freedom was to trap himself in this cold, icy rink.

'the only way.'

*(i just realized that lots of wars and political issues happened around this time, but i will be avoiding and mostly not including them as this is an AU. however i may include some similar movement or war. also, keep in mind that this is a work of fiction)
