"Whaddya mean I can't go to the Pavilion of Paladins?"
Annelly's mother brushed an annoyed expression away from her face and turned to face her daughter. Like Annelly, she had bright green eyes and long red hair. At the moment, those very eyes were burning, boring holes into Annelly.
"Exactly what I said, young lady. You've received over twenty detentions alone for yelling at your teachers. Everything else that I've done, as well as everything that they've done, haven't taught you anything, and this lesson needs to stick. "
"What lesson? The lesson that I can't stand up for my beliefs?"
Her mother pinched the bridge of her nose. "No. The lesson that the Lions aren't living beings, and that you need to stop treating them like they are. "
Annelly lurched forward. "The Lions are living beings! You, my teachers, everyone has it all wron-"
Her mother's expression changed. Her eyes became cold, like the dying embers of a fire. "No." She moved toward the door, away from her child, as if she could no longer bear to be near her. Looking at the wood as if it was a window to the past, she glanced back at her daughter. "If they were living beings, they would've come to Earth and chosen someone years ago." With a start, Annel realized that it was personal. Knowing not to press any further, she sighed and said "Well, bye then mo-"
The door shut with a bang, leaving her alone with her thoughts. Or, to be more precise, one thought. She was going.
