Suicide attempt?
"You mean you were drowning on purpose." I took the stranger by surprise as I said those words. His big light brown orbs looked directly into my dark green ones and I saw a slight grin forming on his face.
"And who could you be?" The good-looking guy asked with curiosity on his tone.
"I was going to say your savior, but I guess I was just an obstacle for you." I chuckled, breaking eye contact with him and looked up to the sky, the soft snowflakes lingering all over my face.
"You look like three trucks ran over you and then a horse stepped on you fifty times."
"That's what I get for getting you out of the frozen water? Woah thanks."
"Nobody asked you to do i-"
"Well I'm sorry for having basic human decency and tried rescuing a stranger who seemed to be in danger!" I snapped at him. I took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, today is just not my day." I sighed looking down at the ground.
"Dazai Osamu." He introduced himself giving me a warm smile.
That warm smile made me forget of all the cold I was feeling at the time, I suddenly felt heat entering my body.
Am I blushing?
"Aya." I simply said.
"No last name?"
"Not even I remember it." I mumbled with a pathetic smile on my face.
We stayed in silence for what it felt an eternity. Dazai looked at the river, his back facing towards me. I saw the snowflakes hitting his soft long hair and laughed at myself of how pathetic I must look right now.
"Say Dazai, do you believe in destiny?"
He turned around, quite astonished at the unexpected question. His beautiful brown eyes looking into mine, as if he could read all my face expressions and thoughts.
"I don't." He answered. Looking up to the sky, closing his eyes for a moment enjoying the breeze that wrapped around us. "Do you?"
"I do." He leaned down towards my face, waiting for me to keep going with the conversation. "I believe some people are just meant to live with despair their whole lives. As much as they try to change everything, flip the tables to the other side, they go back to where they started. They can't escape from their unfortunate destiny. It's sad really."
"You're one interesting girl, Aya." He playfully smirked at me before standing up offering his hand to me. "Come on, I bet you're freezing."
I took his hand and stood up from the freezing ground. I accidently stumbled with my own feet and tripped on Dazai's chest.
"Attracted to me already, Mrs. Aya?" He whispered into my ear, teasing me as he held my back with one of his hands.
I could feel my cheeks turning red, purple, blue, green- all the rainbow colors.
I quickly pushed him back and tried covering my embarrassed face.
"S-stupid jerk."
"Mm." I felt his slim hand gripping my wrist and dragged me with him to God knows where.
"H-hey! How do I know you're not kidnapping me and will end up selling my kidneys?!" I tried sounding intimidating, but instead I sounded scared.
He didn't answer.
We had been walking for around 8 minutes now, he never responded to anything I tried to ask and eventually I gave up. Why was I trusting a stranger so much? Why was I spending my New Years like this?
"Aaaand here we are." Dazai broke the comfortable silence between us. We stopped in front of a small, empty park.
"A park? Really?" I chuckled at the scenery in front of us.
He really is an unexpected human being.
"Come onnn, Aya! The show is about to start."
"What show? Wai-" Before I could talk again, he pulled me closer to him by my hair and pointed up to the sky.
I was confused for a few seconds until I saw big fireworks all over the sky. The cheering from the crowds could be heard from everywhere. "Happy New Year!" They kept saying.
I was too busy admiring the fireworks, and the man next to me. His brown orbs were full of glistening and his lips formed a small curved upwards. If I'm being honest. I was more focused on him than in the actual fireworks above us. For a second, I forgot about everything that had happened in the last few hours. All my worries, thoughts, fears, went away- as if my mind went on reset mode.
After twenty minutes, the fireworks had finished. Dazai hadn't said any witty nor sarcastic remark, as he usually would. He was thinking. I didn't know what it was, I couldn't figure him out at all. But all I knew is that I wanted to get to know him more.
"Aya." He slightly smiled at me. "I changed my mind."
"Change your mind about what?" My curiosity was overboard. Anything this man said, captivated me.
"I believe in destiny too."
