Everyone has that one moment when they either lose everything g they have or gain everything they want. There is that one moment that occurs in a second that can change a person life for good or bad. That one moment that can decide the fate of your future, that one moment that can be a building or a falling block for you. The beauty of this moment is that it happens when you least expect it to. You might be at a party having the best time when the second rushes in to change your life or you might be enjoying your birthday cake when that second rushes in to change your fate. The same moment happened in my life too. The moment that changed my entire life. Unlike the lucky ones for whom the moment can be a beautiful one, mine was a stumbling step, little did I know that this was just the beginning, the first big stumble of my completely shattering life.
The pink hues in the sun kissed sky was splashing its orange and red colours like a paint, the rays dancing in the blue meadow of vast space filled with floating breeze of clouds making different shapes. It was past the rush hour in the cafe and yet the place was crowded with people brimming in and out waiting for their turn to grab their lunch. My knees were hurting from standing in the killer heels for hours. Being a waitress is the worst job anyone can think about. Especially in a cafe this big can turn your whole day from rainbows and sunshine to thunder and storm. The fact that my cheeks were hurting from the fake smile that was plastered on my face for so long is the most disturbing one. I was balancing the cappuccinos and the tortilla wraps perfectly on both my hands when I heard the familiar jingle of the cafe denoting another new customer. I groaned loudly distributing the ones on my hand. Where is Taylor when we need her? I have been covering for her for four hours straight now. I walk to the counter my heels clicking on the floor making the clanging sounds. Plastering the fake smile I ask with a sweet voice "Hi, What can I help you with?" The old lady on the other side mutters her order eyeing me up and down like I was some criminal. I frowned at her behaviour instantly covering it up with my smile writing down her order. "I will be right back with it" I say nodding and walking back towards the kitchen to place the order. June is working behind the reception with her apron smudged in chocolate and tomato ketchup. She is the most messy chef I have seen but her food is the most delicious around the town, which explains the reason being the heavy hustle and bustle at the noon in the cafe. I hand her the paper with the order when Taylor comes in rushing through the door. "Sweetie pie thank you so much for covering up for me" she says hugging me. "My knees are hurting like hell, I will have to take a break" I sigh. "Ohh you should because your phone has been ringing for the past half an hour" she giggles and makes her way to take up my place at the cafe. I rush back to the storeroom to get my phone. I usually leave my phone behind so I don't get distracted during my work, especially with my brother calling me every single time.
Everyone thinks he is the kind of brother who is very protective towards his sister but he is the quite opposite. He only calls when he needs money, being his sister I have got used to him pestering me for money. I snatch the mobile from my bag and the 13 missed calls notification pops up at the Lock Screen. My eyes widen at the name next to it. Why would mom call me 13 times? It might have been something really important for her to be quite concerned. I call her back waiting for her to pickup. The next words that tumbled out of her was enough to send my heart racing at a horse's speed. The words that were the stumbling block of my life. The words that I dreaded to never want to hear from anyone. "Your dad..." before she could continue further my legs were already running out of the cafe across the street in the high heels with the sun beating ferociously on me. Nothing else mattered apart from how fast I could go to reach the hospital.
