Derrick's P.O.V

I sigh opening the door to my house. Charlie runs up to me, jumping up and licking my face. "Hey there, boy." I rub his neck and throw my keys on the dining room table.

I slump into my couch. I had a lot to think about on the drive home.

Ally.

That's all that is on my mind. Even two years later and she is all that I can seem to focus on.

"So stupid. 'You were just an infatuation' my ass." I say aloud scolding myself over such lies.

She is so different now, so numb. I have seen her at her worst and even then she still had her emotions. Her humanity. Now she seems like everyone else. Caught up in life, work, and money.

She is trying to forget her past as if it never happened. As if she really is this 'Rose' person. I hate it.

Her past is what made her the sweet, innocent, caring person she once was. Looking into her big green eyes today, all I saw was emptiness.

I sigh, turning the tv on. I watch for about fifteen minutes and can't seem to focus. I pull out my phone .

To: Peyton

Hey, long day. Want to grab a drink?

I await for her reply as I laugh to myself. After today's events, who would've thought my rock after Ally's 'death', would be Peyton. I was so unhealthy and unwell. She helped me see that.

From: Peyton

God, yes please.

I smile to myself and tell her where to meet me. I take a quick shower and pull on black ripped skinny jeans and a tight black long sleeve shirt and black ankle boots. I look at myself in the mirror and I try to feign a smile, but it's evident it's not genuine.

I hop in the car and head to the bar. I walk in seeing Peyton sitting there on her phone. Once she sees me she smiles and gets up.

"Long time, no see." She smiles showing her pearly whites. I smile back pulling her into a hug. She smells like vanilla and she's so warm to the touch.

We sit down and catch up on some small talk. After a drink or two her face becomes flushed and her warm smile fades.

"You know," she pauses taking another drink, "it's coming up on two years." She hesitantly looks up at me and my heart aches.

"I know, it seems like yesterday she was still here." She weakly smiles and I feel like the scum of the earth for lying. She has to go through the heartbreak of her best friend being 'gone' while I had just seen her a day ago before I traveled back home.

"I just know if she were here she'd probably laugh at the fact that we were here all friendly together."

She doesn't care, I think to myself.

"Well, she's not here."I whisper. I wasn't entirely lying. Ally isn't here anymore. She did die that day. The beautiful girl who didn't know her worth had so much brightness and beauty unknowingly. Now that she seems to 'know', she's empty inside and forgot who she truly was. This whole Rose character is nothing like the girl I fell in love with.

Peyton grabs my hand and runs her thumb over it. "We should do something. Celebrate her, instead of being sad for once. I think she would've loved to see that."

I think she doesn't know what she loves anymore.

"Yeah, sure." I vaguely smile.

It's quiet for a moment and I decide to change the subject. "So, how's school going?"

Her smile brightens again, and she continues about her classes and some of her 'asshole' professors. "Aside from it being so hectic, I do have an internship starting next month. I'm so excited to finally be hands-on. She is a very successful architect and to have even gotten an interview with her firm was an honor. I can't wait to pick her brain daily." She laughs and I can't help but smile at her enthusiasm. She's driven and it reminds me of how Ally once was. I can't help but feel warm inside.

"That's amazing, Peyton. You truly deserve it. You've worked so hard and here you are heading in the right direction." Her cheeks grow red as she gets quiet, which is very unusual for her. She looks up at me with her blue eyes and I get lost. She leans in a little and after a moment she stops, seeing how I will react.  I lean in, meeting her in the middle. I feel her soft lips touch mine and we move in sync. We pull away and I still feel her lips on mine.

I clear my throat and move away. She looks embarrassed and I intertwine my hands. "How about we continue these drinks and conversations back at my place?" She looks surprised but nods with a small smile.

I pay the bill and she follows me back to my
place. She follows me inside and I go to the kitchen and pour us both a drink. "You know," she says breaking the silence, "you've come a long way since you and her." I set our drinks down and stand against the counter looking at her.

"How so?"

She bites her lip in, before speaking. Deep in thought. "Well, to be honest I use to think you were a real creep." We both laugh as we've had this conversation before. "But, since she's been you know, gone, we've grown closer. And I feel like I see what Ally was trying to tell us about you. And now that you've overcame the, no offense, obsessive persona, I see what she was saying. I have for awhile now. I can see why she loved you." She looks down at her drink and my stomach erupted with warmth. Without another word, I slowly walk towards her. She looks up at me, her breathing increases.

"I'm glad you can see it, because I see why she had you as a friend. You're so strong," I push her long blonde hair behind her shoulder, "so confident." I trace her collar bone with my finger and I see goosebumps form over her body. "Forgive my forwardness, but I've  always noticed your beauty. Your strive to be the best at what you want." We look into each other's eyes and she leans up and kisses me.

She moans against my lips and I wrap my arms around her. I trace the small of her back as she runs her fingers through my hair. I grab her and pick her up placing her onto the island. I stand in between her legs as she wraps them around me. She lifts my shirt up and pulls it off swiftly. I run my hand up her thigh and she moans.

"I've wanted this since I met you, before you know, everything else." She shamefully whispers.

I've wanted Ally since we've met despite everything, I think to myself. But Ally or Rose or whoever the hell she is now, doesn't want me. She has truly changed. I have Peyton, in front of me, a girl who has grown into a woman who hasn't changed since I met her.

I look into her eyes before leaning down and kissing her deeply. "I want you." I whisper against her lips. She bites her lip and I can't contain myself any longer. I pull her shirt over her head, leaning down to kiss her chest. She moans and squeezes her legs tighter around me.

"Let's go upstairs." She nods and I lead the way.

If Ally herself doesn't want to return on her own, I will make her.
