Hazel pulled up on Luxington Avenue. I stared out the window with wide eyes. The houses encircling us were massive and expensive. The lawns were mowed and green, the gardens taken care of and at least one sports car residing in every driveway.
"Woah Zel, what kinda friends do you have?"
A small smile appeared on her lips. "Hot and rich ones."
I chuckled, to my surprise. She pulled up in front of a house that was blasting music and glowing light. Cars were parked in every available parking spot and crevice, leaving us with nowhere to park.
Hazel cursed under her breath. She followed the long line of cars, trying to find a decent place to leave the car. They seemed to go on forever. I watched out the window, thinking about how this night was going to play out.
Finally, 11 giant houses down, there was a free spot. Hazel pulled in and turned off the engine.
"Well, shit." She said, looking down at her shoes. I did the same, wondering how I was going to walk the distance in these heels.
I looked at Hazel expectantly. She seemed to think for a moment, before saying, "Well, screw it. This is so not putting a damper on our night." She motioned for me to get out, before opening the door and stepping out.
I sighed, got out and closed the car door behind me. Hazel smiled and looped her arm through mine. "Whatever, it's not that bad. We'll be fine, worst comes to worst we take off our shoes and put them back on there."
I gave her the smile she was expecting and tried to lift my mood.
I looked around. "Zel, how did you even know about this party?"
She blushed a little. "Well, long story short, I'm pretty good friends with the host, Johnny. He's in my Biology Class and..I don't know, we got talking. He's pretty hot and he's got the brains too, so I figured that it couldn't hurt getting to know the guy. He's throwing a party since his parents are out and invited me. I mean I've heard they're pretty wild so I figured why not."
I crinkled my nose and nudged her with my elbow playfully. "So... you guys are just friends for now, huh?"
She glanced at me through the corner of her eye and smiled. "For now."
I chuckled and was about to say something when I was interrupted by the loud sound of an engine. A slightly irrational fear shot through me. It was 10:30PM and Hazel and I were walking alone at night.
We looked back to see 2 motorcycles speeding down the street. We relaxed, expecting them to drive by. My blood froze when I realized that they were slowing down as they got closer to us. "Um..." I said when they full on stopped beside us.
My heart started beating quicker in my chest. We started walking faster when a distant voice calling Hazel's name made her stop.
"Hazel!" A guy called out, his helmet now in his hands. Hazel looked back, surprised, and let out a laugh when she saw who it was. "Well, speak of the devil," she breathed as she grabbed my hand and started walking towards him.
I let out a breath, realizing it was the guy Hazel was telling me about not even 2 minutes ago.
Hazel greeted him with a hug. He was slightly taller than her and had tan skin. He had tousled blond hair, blue eyes and had a little stubble on his jaw. He was attractive as Hazel said but I didn't think him as my type. He reminded me too much of a surfer dude.
He outstretched his hand. "Hi, I'm Johnny."
I took it and smiled. "Skye."
He smiled back before turning to Hazel. "You came! I wasn't sure if you would."
She gave him a flirty smile, "I told you I would."
He couldn't seem to resist smiling back. He laughed a little shyly before saying, "I didn't mean to be creepy or anything, I just recognized you from my bike and thought you wanted a ride" He motioned towards his motorcycle and his friend.
The friend he was motioning to walked over towards us and took off his helmet.
My stomach did an involuntarily leap and I felt my heartbeat pick up.
"Son of a -" I said under my breath, before Johnny interrupted and said, "This is my cousin, Dylan".
