You gave me a shoulder when I needed it

James had written to y/n the moment Sirius had appeared at his front door in the middle of the night. The usually strong boy was unbelievably weak and the only thing he'd asked was if he could stay over for awhile, after that he hadn't spoken another word.

James could guess what had happened, he knew what Sirius' his parents were like and he knew that y/n was the only one who could truly help him right now. She always seemed to be the only one who ever really made any difference, no matter how hard the boys tried they just couldn't get through to him like she could. He just always to open up to her more than anybody else even before they were in a relationship.

She had gotten to the potters house much quicker than James had expected, Sirius had only been there an hour and it was still only 3 in the morning when he heard the fireplace and somebody stepping out of it quickly making her way through to the living room, most likely away to make her way up the stairs but halted when she seen them.

The moment she lay eyes on Sirius she felt her heart sink, they had been expecting this for awhile now but it didn't make it any less heart breaking.

"I'm gonna go up to bed. The guest bedroom is up the stairs and to the right" James mumbled standing up and looking over at his best friend that had been sitting staring at the ground in silence.

"I tried to get him to go up to bed, he wouldn't even look at me it was like talking to a brick wall" James whispered to the girl and she just nodded, keeping her eyes concentrated on her boyfriend.

"I'll handle it James, don't worry" she assured and he smiled halfheartedly

"Ye I know you will, that's why I owled you" he replied making his way up the stairs

"I'll see you in the morning" he said finally before disappearing out of sight.

She looked back at the broken boy in front of her and decided that first and foremost she needed to get him up to bed, if he was ready to talk when they got there she would listen, if he wasn't she would wait until he was.

"Sirius, I think we should go up to bed it's pretty late" she said quietly, crouching down to his level. He never reacted at all and she would have thought he hadn't heard her if he never tensed at the sound of her voice.

"C'mon love. Your not going to be on your own, I'm coming with you and I'm not leaving" she continued softly and he started to stand up, showing her that her thought process was indeed correct and he did not want to be alone.

She had guided him up the stairs and into the room and the second the door shut he finally let the tears fall. She stepped forward and he flinched slightly at the sudden movement, what the hell had they done to him.

"Sirius" she whispered not really knowing what to do if he wasn't ready for her to touch him, her go to strategy was giving him the biggest hug she possibly could and not letting him go until she was certain he was a little better. That clearly wouldn't work this time though.

"They tortured me" he mumbled, not trusting his voice enough to talk properly as the sobs were still racking his body.

He sat down on the bed, his body obviously exhausted from the pain it had been through that night and she slowly moved to sit next to him, not wanting to startle him while he's so out of it. She reckoned that if they had continued torturing him for any longer he would have lost his sanity and ended up practically brain dead like what happens in some cases when the cruciatus curse is used.
