Tayyar glared at the wall in front of him. It was lined with pictures. Whenever an employee did something of note their picture would be hung up on the wall. Most every picture was of Omer, his pearly smile lit up each picture frame. Here and there another face showed up, Elif or Metin. But one face was absent from the wall.
Tayyar.
Tayyar clenched his fist as he walked along the wall.
I do so much for this clinic, and not even a single plaque of me is on this wall. I mean, even Metin is here! What did he do, schedule one more appointment then usual? I'm going to be on this wall if it's the last thing I do, and Omer can do nothing to stop me!Tayyar tapped on the surface of his desk. He looked absentmindedly at his fish tank.
"My precious discus, do you know how I can get employee of the day? Hmmmm?"
The fish blew bubbles at him and a rock drifted from its mouth. Tayyar sighed.
As Tayyar stared at the wall, a thought struck his mind like lightning, and an evil grin lit up his face.
He clasped his hands together and cackled.Omer sighed. The early rush was nearly over so he would have a break for a bit. Time to relax a bit. Today's been so busy.
As he opened the door to leave his office he slipped and fell into the door way. He looked around and found a banana peel under his feet. He looked up to see Tayyar with an armful of compost."What are you doing with that?" Omer asked. Tayyar couldn't see over the mountain of fruit peels and leftovers.
"What? Oh this? I'm just going to help the earth. Making' the ground pretty again. We only have a little bit of lawn in this city so might as well make it pretty!"
Omer peered at him as he stomped down the halls as he tried not to spill any thing else.Hmhmhmhahaaaaa~! I dropped that banana peel on purpose and he didn't even realize! Tayyar buried the compost outside and came back inside, thinking up other ways to mess with Omer and get on the employee of the day wall.
Omer walked down the hallways, but something seemed...off. The walls were painted a sterile white, but the usual specks of grime were gone. In fact, the more he looked, he noticed that the whole hall was spotless!
Tayyar was mopping the floor, a janitor's bucket trailing behind him. And while the floor was certainly very clean, it was soaking wet. It was basically a water slide. Omer's foot slipped out from under him as he slid down the hall like turtle thrown on its shell. He crashed into the bucket, sending a waterfall of soapy water everywhere.
"Tayyar, if you're going to mop the floor you need to put up a wet floor sign!"
"Sorry Omer, I guess I lost my head in my mop. But ain't the floor sparkly now?"
"...it is, but you need to be careful. We try to treat patients here not make new ones. But good job with the cleaning, this hall certainly needed it."
The drenched Omer stalked off while Tayyar hid his laugh poorly. Hahaha, that slipping fool, he looked so funny sliding down the hall. But look at the time! I hope this is enough to get me on the wall today. As Tayyar walked into the break room he noticed that everyone was huddled in a group. They kept casting glances at him but their voices were a hushed whisper.
"Hey, are you all talking about me? I got on the wall didn't I, I bet that's it! Well, aren't you going to take my picture for the wall?"
Metin glared at him.
"What are you going on about, old man? You've barely done anything today. Did you even treat anyone?"
"Well...no.,but I did other things!"
"Like what?"
"Well I took out the compost, and I-I mopped the halls...and...I..."
Tayyar suddenly noticed that he had no chance to get on the wall. Omer was up there for his hard work, so was everyone else. But Tayyar did work hard. Just not on the right things...
Without another word Tayyar sulked back into his office. He set a sad tune to play on his radio and held a licorice stick to his mouth like a cigarette. Sad thoughts circled in his brain. Thoughts like I'll never get on the wall, and if only I had more patients like Omer. But tayyar's pity hour was cut short when he heard a loud crashing from outside his door. Omer's face appeared in the door way. He said "Say cheese!" And took a bad photo of Tayyar who stood shocked by the door.
"What are you doing Omer? Here to rub it in?"
"No Tayyar. Soooo you just wanted to be on the wall. Well I reckon you did a good job today and I won't let that hard work go unrewarded! Come on old buddy, see your picture on the wall!"
Omer dragged the shocked Tayyar to the wall. Tayyar had finally done it. As he gazed over the wall he saw his picture. Even though it wasn't a good image, it was still him.Tayyar had finally gotten employee of the day.
