Karasuno Volleyball Club
!! WARNING: Depictions of anxiety and anxious thoughts !!
I made my way to the gym easily, remembering seeing it whilst wandering the outside of the school during my lunch period. It was around the same are I had run into Yamaguchi. Once I finally make it to the front entrance to the gym I can feel the nervousness eating at me, causing me to shake slightly, and making my palms sweaty. I take a deep breath in, holding it and counting to 7. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven... I felt a bit better, more in control, and I opened the doors. Little did I know that going through them would change my life forever. Or at least that's what I would say if I were the main character in a girl's manga. I'm not really sure what's going to happen, though I do know that I am definitely not the main character. I have and will always be in the background, a side character, villager B.
I step into the gym, it smelling of leather and men's deodorant, suddenly realizing how many people were here. I saw 12 boys of varying heights and grades, some of them I recognized from around the school, and others I was far less aware of. I examine the people, realizing that all of the boys I've met around school were all here. The big scary third-year that I ran into on the first day, "Tsukki" the guy in class 5, and my lunch buddy Yamaguchi. I continue to scan the room and finally, I make eye contact with the girl, Kiyoko. When our eyes meet I can see her's light up slightly. I love how gray her eyes are, and how the light being filtered in from the gym made them shine so uniquely. She quickly handed what seems to be the advisor of this club her binder and ran over to me, a small smile spreading across her face. She was blushing lightly and her little smile was so cute. Cute? Since when did I think that about people? About girls? I think to myself as she finally makes it across the gym.
"You came!" Kiyoko said with slight enthusiasm.
"Y-yea I did," I say hesitantly before asking a question, "Um, what do I need to do?"
"Today I'm just going to introduce you to the team and show you some of the more basic stuff about volleyball."
So this is a volleyball club... maybe this could be fun. From the way she's describing it, I think we're more moral support or maybe managers. I think quietly to myself, unaware that I was actually mumbling a bit. "Okay!" I say excitedly, signaling that we could begin.
"Okay so let me go in order of numbers on the team. Number one is Daichi, he's the average-looking one, he's the captain of Karasuno's volleyball team and a third-year. Number two is the grey-haired one, Sugawara, a third-year as well..." The introductions continued on, my brain beginning to feel overwhelmed by the number of names and information I was receiving. Eventually, she finally finished introducing everyone, but that didn't mean I was free. They all approached me as soon as she finished. Tall. They weren't this tall before. Why are they so tall? They're scary. I'm scared. Please don't hurt me. Please. Pl-
I was pulled from my spiraling thoughts when Kiyoko grabbed me.
"Are you alright? You seem to be shaking? Did they come off too strong?" She turned towards the boys. "You guys, she's not used to you, and frankly you're scary."
She turned back to me, double-checking that I was alright and then we got started again. This time it was me introducing myself. "Um, hi, I'm Hitoka Yachi, but you can just call me Yachi," I say nervously. The team says an array of greetings in return and Kiyoko turns back to me.
"Now they're going to do some warm-ups and basic practice stuff, so while they're doing that you and I can go over different volleyball terms and the overall rules of the game." Kiyoko smiles sweetly at me and begins going over the many parts of volleyball.
*Time Skip to at Home*
It was about 5 o'clock at night when I arrived home and I was exhausted. The volleyball meeting was a lot of fun once I got over some of my initial fears. The guys on the team may be large, but they're all incredibly sweet and good-natured. I think some of my favorites were Yamaguchi and Hinata though, they were extremely kind and a lot of fun to be around. I did get to spend a lot of time with Kiyoko, any time she turned to me my heart went crazy, pitter-pattering, while my stomach did flips. Why my body was doing that I still couldn't figure out. 'She makes me feel so happy, like a little girl. Is this what a crush feels like?' I wonder.
I push away those thoughts and turn towards my notebook. While at the meeting I took a lot of notes so I could study over it, I know myself, and myself doesn't really know a lot about volleyball. (A/N this actually isn't true for me, I had a whole unit on it in PE and my volleyball friends teach me for fun so I can be a good practice partner. I love recieving spikes and serves *^^*) What I've gathered so far is gathered in my notebook, though I'll have to talk to Yamaguchi tomorrow about the accuracy.
Yachi's Notebook:
Set- to place the ball in front of another player in order to spike the ball onto the other side of the net by using your fingertips
Recieve- to use your arms and keep the ball in play on your side of the net, often recieving spikes, serves, or other attacks from the opponents
Spike- to hit the ball with the palm of your hand to get it on the other teams side of the court
Other:
-there are 6 players on a team; setter, wing spiker, middle blocker, libero, etc.
-25 points to win a set or a 2 point lead after both teams reach a deuceI felt pretty accomplished after refreshing myself on the basics and headed to the kitchen for dinner. Mom was out for a business meeting again so I had leftovers. Not that I was complaining though, this meant I could have fried chicken 2 days in a row. I checked the date, realizing something great; my Dad would be home next week! He often went on business trips like my mom, but his were in other prefectures and even countries sometimes. When dad is home, mom doesn't go to as many meeting and we get to eat together as a family. Though lately those family dinners have become more few and far between. I'm hoping this time I'll be able to watch a movie with them though. I can't remember the last time we'd done that.
Flashback to 8 months ago:
"Yachi! I'm home!" A man's voice boomed through the house. I had just come home from school, now doing homework when I heard my dad yell through the house."Dad!" I ran downstairs at the speed of light and gave the tall man a hug, squeezing tightly. "I'm so glad you're home. This time, let's all watch a movie. You, me, and mom." He looked down and smiled at me in a fatherly way.
"Of course, princess."
Flashback Over.
That movie night between the Hitoka's never happened though. (A/N I can't figure out which name is Yachi's first so I'm just gonna say that Hitoka is her last name.) Yachi's mother got a call about 15 minutes into the movie and off she went to an emergency meeting. This time Yachi hoped that wouldn't happen. She wanted to have a successful movie night with her family and she'd do anything to get it.

A/N- I love this chapter a lot. My accuracy for the volleyball stuff is definitely not accurate but it's how I learned/worded it lolol. There's probably some typos in this because of not using my computer so I'm sorry :p Nothing's italicized because my phone wouldn't italicize it but I hope it was still enjoyable :D Make sure to leave some feedback if you have any and enjoy the story *^^*(1419 Words)
