Authors Note: Research and development is a crucial factor in being a member of the magical community. Whether you are a specialist, or the proverbial Jack Of All Trades, any and all information is useful. Some magic users collect information on landscapes and territorial magic, others on the elemental magics within us all. As long as it can be documented, recorded, written on your hand in the middle of wings night at your local bar, it can be valuable.
Harriet and Tony made their way back to the pine tree mansion, meeting Wick in the classroom where the teacher was writing down the newest lesson on functional offensive spells to use with an energy router.
"Oh Wick, I'd like you to meet Tony Seeds!" Harriet extended her arms as the vine supported gourd walked into the doorway. Tony waved his two vine pronged hand at Wick, smiling brightly.
"This is amazing!" Wick announced upon seeing Tony. "I'll admit I expected you to either fail or explode so I can honestly say I am proud and amazed!"
"Thank you I think?!" Harriet said to her mentor. "Tony, say hello to Wizard Wick, my teacher and sorcerer extraordinaire."
"Hello Wizard Wick. Me Tony!" Tony waved with a smile.
"For a gourd he is rather talkative. How does he speak? How does he hear?" Wick questioned.
"That's why I came straight back. I felt we could study him together." Harriet explained.
"May I ask, where did the candle in his head come from?" Wick asked suddenly.
"Oh.. well... You know that candle store in the mall you hate?" Harriet led.
"Ah. Soldiers Last Light. Hate that store. It always feels like they're making fun of our troops with their name." Wick said in a frustrated groan.
"Well they had this candle on clearance." Harriet answered. "I liked the look of the dark orange in a pumpkin."
"Ah. That whole aesthetic thing you young ones are all about. Alright. Tony could you please open your mouth?" Wick requested, pointing to Tony's mouth. Tony opened his mouth wide. Wick took a pencil from his shirt pocket and poked it into Tony's mouth. He poked the candle with the eraser, causing tony to flinch.
"AAA Tony no like!!" Tony ran behind Harriet, trying to hide by kneeling.
"Hmm... Seems the candle is the main connection. Possibly due to the vegetation absorbing into the wax causing a pseudo nerve system and certain olfactory sensors. Tell me Tony, can you hold this and tell me what it feels like?" Wick held the pencil up to the living pumpkin. Tony tried to grab the pencil with his two vine claw, but the pencil slipped from his hand.
Tony looked at the pencil down on the floor in frustration. Tony looked at Wicks hands. As he looks he sees Wicks five digits, looks at his two vines, and sees the problem. Focusing on his left arm, three more vines grow from underneath his pumpkin head, entwining around the two original vines. Each vine finding a different length to recreate a humanoid hand. Tony then takes his index finger and thumb and lifts the pencil off the tile floor.
Wick and Harriet stare in awe at the advanced evolution Tony presented to them.
"Feels like me. Feels like a tree but an arm." Tony choppily explained.
"Incredible." Wick said, awe inspired
"Awesome!" Harriet yelled in happiness. "This is what I was trying to tell you! He learns by imitating what he sees and hears!!"
"This is way more than familiar magic Harriet. This is much stronger. Where did you perform the ritual?" Wick questioned.
"Well I walked north of the manor for about an hour and a half, tripped on a tree root, and I found a flat land with 5 big trees pointed like a star." Harriet summarized.
