Sunstars struggle

chapter 3

It has been almost a moon since Sunkit has seen Mintkit after the attack. Images of the attack flashed in her mind, the blood and death scarred her thoughts. Sunkit grew distant from the rest of the clan. "We are going to look for Mintkit" Goldenshine said "Finally! It took you almost a moon!" Sunkit shot back,ears pressed up against her fur. "I'm sorry we have been...busy. but were going now". " Fine."

Goldenshine left toward a group of other warriors and apprentices. Sunkit slowly crept into the group without anyone noticing. One apprentice looked back and saw Sunkit standing in the group "What are you doing here?" The apprentice whispered. "Please don't tell. I just want to find my Friend" Sunkit confessed."OK I will give you food and take care of you. By the way I'm Scorchpaw" the apprentice added "Come on cats, we are going to get Mintkit!" Wingrock the Mountainclan deputy shouted. All the cats started to walk out of the camp,  Scorchpaw and Sunkit in the back.

Out of camp was different; snowier and it even had more Forest and more dangerous. Soon everything smelled different. "We are in Sunclan territory now" Scorchpaw whispered like he could read Sunkit's mind. "We are going into Sunclan camp, remember no attacking unless necessary". The rest of the group nodded before walking through the bushes into the Sunclan territory.

"What is Mountainclan doing here?!" a large black tom hissed."You took Minkit!" Sunkit screamed attracting attention."What are you doing sneaking in here like this?", Wingrock said with anger in his eyes. "I'm sorry, I wanted to see Mintkit" "Well well well! We will take your gift.Thank you". The large black tom bent down to grab Sunkit. Sunkit hissed and slashed with her paws unsheathing her claws for the first time. Her paw smacked against the black toms face leaving a very tiny scar, The type that will never go away. "You have courage kit. You can have your friend back little one", the big black tom said smiling at the strength of the young kit. "Oh thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Sunkit screamed running toward the black tom giving him a giant hug."Thanks.....uhhhhh?" "The name is Mossrock." "Oh. OK, thanks Mossrock". "You're welcome. Come on then, let's go get your friend back", Mossrock said walking toward the camp.The rest of the group followed. "Whoa. Whoa. Whoa only the kit comes!" Mossrock exclaimed."Are you crazy!."Wingrock shot back. Spine puffed up with his claws unsheathed.

"Knowing Sunclan they'll probably kill her before they even get into camp!" screamed the pale ginger she-cat Echofeather. "We are not the monsters you think we are!" Mossrock screamed back."Go.Go ahead,leave with only Sunkit, We trust you." Scorchpaw said walking through the group of cats to meet the giant black tom eye to eye. Mossrock turned with Sunkit to go get Mintkit. Soon they walked through the bramble wall and out of sight. Mossrock and Sunkit were in Sunclan camp. Cats walked back and forth across the clearing. Sunkit felt awkward,maybe it was that all the Sunclan cats stopped and looked at her,or that she was walking next to the cat that stole Mintkit in the first place. "You go see your friend in the nursery, I will go talk to the leader about getting her back." Mossrock ordered.

"OK. once again thanks so much" Sunkit dashed into the nursery and jumped on Mintkit. "What are you doing here,did they take you to?" Mintkit said nervously." Nope. Quite the opposite...We are here to get you back!"Sunkit screamed. Mossrock came into the nursery. "We are allowed to take Mintkit back"

"YES! come on lets go"

"fine come on then." Mossrock led them to the group. "Your back and you brought Mintkit!" screamed Scorchpaw running up to Sunkit giving her a giant hug. The Toms black/red bristly fur poking at her skin but she did'nt mind this is the happiest she had ever been. What she did'nt know was that things were going to get even better. Once they got back to camp everyone stared and some even walked up to greet Mintkit and her. Wingrock walked toward Hawkstar, apparently Hawkstar wanted to talk him or he wanted to talk to her. Anyway Sunkit peeked from behind a nearby tree.

"She is not ready ye,t did you see what she did?" Wingrock said

"She did it out of courage, I have never seen a kit with so much strength"

"But she broke the code, don't you see that" Wingrock snarled.

"Yes but sometimes you have to break the code to be loyal to the clan." Hawkstar argued with a stare that said end of discussion. Wingrock walked away Sunkit jumped into the bushes to avoid being seen. It worked. Wingrock walked right past her mostly because she rubbed herself with leaves.

Seconds after Wingrock walked past Hawkstar called a clan meeting." All cats please come to the snow rock to hear my words"

All the cats started to sit around the snow rock to hear what Hawkstar wanted to say. Sunkit ran next to Mintkit who was sitting next to the medicine cat Foxherb."I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that Mintkit will be held back a moon before she becomes an apprentice." Hawkstar announced. A wave of sadness and disappointment washed over Mintkit, looking down she turned around and was about to leave when Hawkstar continued "Now the good news. Sunkit please step forward"

Sunkit new exactly what was going on. She was becoming an apprentice but for some reason it did'nt feel as amazing as Sunkit thought. Maybe it was because  Mintkit was not right there next to her. Still Sunkit stepped forward. Hawkstar continued. "Sunkit you have been a kit for six moons now therefore the time has come to become an apprentice. Do you wish to uphold the Warrior cod even at the cost of your life?"

"I do." Sunkit stammered.

"By the powers of the Wing givers and Starclan together I give you your apprentice name Sunpaw."

"Thank you so much." Sunkit replied. For some reason this did not feel as amazing once Mintkit walked away, but then Hawkstar said one more thing: "Sunpaw your mentor will be Wingrock and I feel a lot more is coming your way. I promise".
