tate's pov:

as alec and i walk into the gas station to grab some coffee, i check my phone for the time and see it's 4:30 AM.

"tate, you want iced or hot?" alec says with his back turned to him and facing the coffee maker.

"hot obviously," i state rather bluntly, and alec sensed the slight edge to my voice.

"what's got you fucked man," alec says while handing the small coffee to me.

"we have school in like 3 hours, and we haven't slept in like, two days," i state while shooting him a dirty glance.

alec always is up for an adventure and exploring. i enjoy it, but i also need to be alone sometimes.

"and what's the problem with that? it's just junior year." alec states looking confused.

"nevermind," i say, taking a swig of my coffee and sitting down on the bench outside the little store.

"god can't wait to walk into basically victoria's secret in less than 3 hours" alec sarcastically remarks, rolling his eyes.

"i just wish some girls were different ya know?" i say fiddling with my hands.

"you've got every girl in the school, yet you are still not pleased?" He states looking at me in disbelief.

"i guess yeah."

...

"alec it's 7:15, we gotta get fucking moving," i say trying to drag him along.

"someone's eager for school." he says smirking.

"whatever" i mutter under my breath and start jogging to school. i have to be there on time with or without alec.

"shit!" I hear someone yell from below me.

i glance down to meet eyes with the most beautiful girl i have ever seen.

her short-ish blonde hair was wavy, and her blue eyes stood out immensely.

i plowed right over a pretty girl.

great.

i reach down and she takes my hand and pulls. herself up.

"well hello there, lady," i say with a smirk.

when she stands up, i see she's tall. so am i, so i like taller girls.

she rolls her eyes quickly, then begins walking again.

"holy shit dude" i turn to see alec looking at me.

"tate just got rejected. never thought i'd see that. especially by penny." he states taunting me.

"penny?" i say giving him a questioning glance.

"yeah, emma's old best friend. she used to be much like the rest of our school but according to emma she's different now." alec says, trying to read what I'm thinking.

"well, i fucking hate emma so i don't believe a word she says," i say truthfully.

I used to be "fuck mates" with emma, if that's what you call it. i always saw a girl with her latched onto her arm, but these two people looked so different from each other.

i could already tell she was shy, had something she was hiding. i became determined to find out. 

"woah there man, just because she's dating jake doesn't mean you can hate her. Don't be an arse."

"says, you alec," i say while quickly walking towards the school.
