‘’Just another day of torture. It almost becomes normal to me now. When I was born, my parents named me Katy and they expected I would grow up as a beautiful girl who would wear dresses and used make-up. Well, let’s just say that I’m everything except that person. I grew up with the feeling I was stuck in this body. The body of someone who isn’t me. My parents never believed me and they said it was ‘’just a phase’’ and that I’m ‘’too young to know what I feel’’. So I grew up pretending to be someone I don’t want to be. I grew up being afraid to be me. I don’t want to be a girl at all. I actually want to be a boy. A boy named Alex. The only people who accept me are my friends. They call me Alex and use he/him pronounces and I’m really thankful for that. The teachers also accept me and they make sure to call me Katy when my parents are near, but the rest of the school isn’t that tolerant. Oh my god, wait, I forgot to welcome you to this school! I have a habit of telling my problems to people I’m comfortable with. I hope you don’t mind. Okay so, you’re basically stuck with me for the rest of the week, probably even longer, but let’s make the best out of it. I don’t know why they asked me as your guide since this is my first year on this school too, but listen carefully to me. Try to avoid Tiffany and her minions. They’ll start bullying you if you only look at them. Then there’s Troy and his friends. They are on the football team and think they’re everything. Tiffany also has a crush on Troy so make sure to not look, speak, talk or think about him because Tiffany WILL kill you. Then there’s Steve and Matthew. They are the best friends of Troy, so watch out for them as well.’’ ‘’Who’s that guy?’’. ‘’ Who? Oh, him. That’s Jake. He’s the mysterious, bad guy of the school. Everyone is scared of him.’’ ‘’Why is everyone scared of him?’’. ‘’Well, Troy once tried to bully him and beat him up, but he didn’t know that Jake has a black belt in Taekwondo, Judo and Karate. So as you can already guess, he won from Troy. But that’s not everything. Jake’s father is the boss of a motor gang, so when his father found out that Troy tried to beat up his son, he went to Troy’s house with a few other members and people are saying Jake’s father threatened Troy’s parents. So that’s why everyone is scared of him.’’ ‘’That makes a lot sense. Are these the only people I have to watch out for? I don’t want any conflicts you know.’’ ‘’As far as I know, these are the only people you have to watch out for.’’
You learned a lot about Alex and he learned a lot about you. You actually became really good friends already, since it felt like you’ve known each other for days. You found out that Tiffany is actually a classmate, but she didn’t bully anyone during class, probably because Jake is also a classmate. In the hallways she tried to bully you and Alex a few times, but Jake jumped in and made sure she was gone and checked up on you and Alex to make sure you were okay. This happened everyday. He protected you and Alex. In the second week, Jake, Alex and you were already best friends and no one even thought of bullying any of you. After school you would always hang out together and make homework together. Jake wasn’t always in the same class as you, so he would wait for you two after school. Until he suddenly wasn’t there on Friday.
‘’Where’s Jake? He always waits for us.’’
That day Alex wasn’t there because he was sick. Searching for Jake all by yourself was dangerous, but you did it anyways. You eventually found him, beaten up, behind the school near the football field. He was badly injured and needed to go to the hospital. You called his father and he brought the two of you to the hospital. Jake told a lot about his life and told you what to do if this would ever happen. He said to call his father when you’re in danger or if something happens to Jake. At the hospital they found out that Jake broke 3 ribs and wasn’t allowed to walk a lot for at least 4 weeks. When the three of you would go to school, Jake’s father would pick you and Alex up to bring you to school and at the end of the day he would bring you back home. This became a ritual and none of you really mind it.
