Dreams and Ghosts

Kaida Pov

I woke up hearing loud screams and cries for help. I sit up quickly and look around to see my old village covered in flames. There was people running and others screaming for their loved ones. Panic takes over and I get up running away from the murderous people in black cloaks. Cries for help fill the air and I can only run faster. A big man wearing a pitch black cloak rips me up by my hair as I let out a pained cry.

"So this is the little kaida your mother was telling me all about." he sneers with his pointy teeth. "what did you do to her" I cry as I send a weak azure blue flame at him. He only gives a sinister chuckle at my attempt of hurting him. Dread that is all I could feel at this very moment. I was sure I was going to die and there was no one to save me.

he dragged his blood covered finger against my cheek wiping away my tears but leaving a trail of blood in its place. Bile rises in my throat knowing that blood belonged to my mother. He leaned in close to my ear " You should've heard her scream. She begged to be killed after I broke half the bones in he-"

Before he could finish a flash of blue flames cut his arm off successfully dropping me to the floor. I look to my left to see my father flaming sword in hand and blood dripping from his forehead. I scurry away from the cloaked man and dash towards my father. I quickly hide behind him gripping onto him for dear life.

A shadow covered his eyes as an angry scowl covers his lips. "Kaida I want you to run away and don't look back. There's a man, part of the church, on his way back to your mothers village find him" he says low and gruffly. I hugged his leg tight burring my face in his leg "I don't want to leave. They're going to kill you" I cry into his leg knowing if I leave now this will be the last time I see him.

"Don't worry about that now my little forger. We'll meet again I promise but you have to go I can't fight knowing you'll be in danger" I look over to see the black cloaked starting to regain himself after losing his arm. Father nudges me to go as he stays in his battle stance. This time I don't hesitate as I begin to run into the thick forest that surrounded our village. The farther I got the quieter everything was until the only sound left was my feet thumping against the forest floor.

Something isn't right this is the part we're I find the father resting. Yet the more I run the darker it gets until I'm consumed by darkness. I frantically look around me trying to find something, anything to tell me I'm still in the forest. My movements get cut short as a hand shoots from the darkness and snatching me up by the neck. "You're going to pay you filthy marauder for all the pain your blood has caused" the voice sickly sweet calls out. A giant pair of razor sharp teeth appear with glowing emerald eyes. It's jaws open wide as it lunges towards me.

I shoot up in bed sweat dripping down my forehead as tears brim my eyes. My hands clench my sheets my heart still pounding from the nightmare. A small beam of light shines through my curtains and I slip out of bed. "I love getting up at sunrise" I mumble to myself as I make my way to my dresser that had the only other pair of clothes I owned.

[After breakfast]

"Kaida!" Leopold shouts from across the courtyard. I look over to see him  happily coming my way dorky smile and all. I feel my lips twinge into a small smile. "Hey leopold is there something I can do for you"

"Fuegoleon wanted me to tell you to come to his office we have a mission" he says as he reaches my side. "We?" I hum in question as he only nods and leads me to his brother. "How did you sleep" he asks with a curious gaze. "Ah ya know having a bed to myself is pretty great" I admit rubbing the back of my neck shooting him a forced smile. We make small talk until we reach the captains door.

Without even knocking Leopold bursts into captains office. 'I get it's your brother but he's still our captain' I can't help but think as I quickly apologize for the interruption.

Captain only laughs at his brother's antics. "Kaida, I want you to join Leopold and Ban on a mission to deliver an important package to a Nobleman a couple days away. Do you think you can handle that?" He asks as he reads over the mission paper.

I straighten my posture as I nod "yes sir". He nods giving me a warm smile. "When does our mission start" I ask as I shift my eyes to my feet as my cheeks glow a soft pink.

"You'll have to wait for Ban to come back from the capital with the package which shouldn't be muc-" captain was cut off again by a tall silver haired man opening the door. My heart stops as my gaze meets his crimson ones. 'There is no way. NO WAY!!! That is who I think it is'

Our eyes don't break from each other as my mind races over the possibility of him actually being alive. "What's gotten into you two" leopold asks at our intense staring contest. Before I could say anything I'm getting lifted up into the air by ban as he pulls me into a bone crushing hug.

"You're alive" I murmur not believing this moment to be real. "Sure am firefly" he boasts out as he finally lets me drop from his arms. I punch him in the arm and that stupid nickname he gave me. Before any other words can be said Captain clears his throat drawing our attention back.

"It's good to see friends United but as for your mission it needs to be delivered as soon as possible. Make sure no one else gets their hands on that package. Dismissed" captain fuegoleon says as we all salute and leave the room. We all leave the room and I can't help the ecstatic feeling that fills my chest.

"How do you both know each other" Leopold asks a sharpness in his tone. "We were best friends as kids" I say not knowing exactly how much about the past Ban has talked about. "Yep firefly over here would follow me around everywhere like a little puppy" ban laughs as he throws his arm over my shoulder.

"Did not" I say elbowing his side effectively removing his arm from me. I feel Leopolds intense stare but he says nothing else as we set off to the deliver the package.
