I stood on a rooftop of a building as I watched the alleyways, patiently waiting for someone to stumble into my trap. After a while of waiting, I finally noticed someone walking into the alley. I leaned forward a bit, good enough to somewhat get a good view of the person but careful enough so I wouldn't slip. It looked like a middle-aged woman who wore a red velvet dress and was walking in a drunk like way. There were two glowing red demon horns looming over her head which was a mark that she was a sinner. I held out my hand feeling the small surges of energy that flowed from my shoulder, through my arm, and into the palm for my hand. A small white orb appeared as it then quickly thinned and expanded eventually the shape of a scythe. It shifted colors, going from a glowing milky white to a color palette of white, grey, and black. I held the newly formed scythe by its cold black handle and quickly got into the position as the woman continued to walk down the alleyway. I watched the woman, waiting for her to come to the right spot like a tiger stalking its prey from its environment. Once she got close enough, I made my move. I leaped off of the rooftop and began descending down at a high speed moving towards the woman. I gripped my scythe with both of my hands and I twisted myself forcing my body to spin around in the air in the woman's direction before managing to get my scythe's blade in contact with the woman's neck. I was met with a slashing noise that seemed to echo in my mind. But as soon as that occurred, I landed on my feet sliding back for a bit before looking at the sight of which was brought before me. The woman's body laid still on the ground as the spot where the head would be was leaking blood creating a small pool. I had sliced off the woman's head as I looked towards it. Her eyes were wide open giving off a shocking expression staring at me. I slowly took a step back but as I did so, I was met with a shockwave of pain coming from my legs. I winced as I collapsed onto my knees dropping my scythe in the process as I trembled in pain. I bit my lip, holding back the powerful urge to scream in pain. As much as I had wanted to yell, it would only cause attraction and if someone were to see me right now, then it wouldn't end in a good way. I turn my head towards my scythe's blade and slowly reach out for it hoping to not increase the pain I was already experiencing. The blade, once clean, was now coated in blood, the sinner's blood. I slowly grabbed my scythe and pulled it towards me but then I suddenly began to notice small specs of light form around me. I shut my eyes tightly gripping onto my scythe as I can feel the environment change around me, becoming more light and warm. I'm greeted with silence as I slowly open my eyes. I find an empty void full of darkness as I slowly look up to see what seems to be thousands of small orbs containing tiny hearts inside. Those hearts were souls. Soul of the sinners that had been collected in the past. Only a little amount of those souls was collected by me, the other ones I'm not sure where they came from. I look down to see that my scythe was already gone as then I heard a familiar voice echo throughout the void. "Looks like you injured yourself for the third time this week." The pain in my legs had ceased as I slowly stood up, expecting to be more pain but that didn't happen. I turn towards the direction where the voice came from, only to be met by a tall figure who wore a dark grey cloak. It was my boss, Grim. "You know I won't always be able to save you right?" Grim crossed his arms as he said this, staring at me intensely with those pitch-black eyes of his. I slowly nod while tilting my head downwards, refusing to keep eye contact with Grim. He sighed, "Your legs are healed now, you can continue on with your task tomorrow." I look up at him. His eyes were filled with annoyance and frustration, while his facial expression also gave that away. "Look I'm sorry but-" before I could finish my sentence, Grim interrupted me. "I understand that you're sorry but you need to remember that just because you're a reaper doesn't mean that you are invincible," Grim moved his arms behind his back. "You are still as weak as a mere human and if you're not careful, you will get killed. So I suggest you stop acting so reckless and actually pay attention to the chances of you surviving a certain situation." I take off my mask and stare at it. "I know how reckless I can be and I understand how I keep putting myself in a near-death situation but it's just that it makes it easier to kill" "Well you're not completely wrong about that, in some situations it is, but even the easiest ways can be the deadliest" Grim replies as he held out his hand and a soul appears in his palm, glowing brightly. I look at the soul. "Is that the soul of the sinner I just killed?" I ask, staring at it with awe. "Indeed it is," Grim creates a small barrier trapping it in what seems to be like an orb. He then gave it a little nudge as it slowly began to float towards the other souls. "What did that woman do to become a sinner?" I ask, looking at Grim. He sighed. "Well she committed the sin of Lust, about a few years ago, she sexually assaulted a young 11-year-old boy being the pervert she was which had caused the childhood trauma. A year later, he committed suicide because he wasn't capable of handling the nightmares and paranoia that came along with the trauma that the woman had brought upon him so he wanted to end it." I was stunned by what I heard. I never expected something like getting touched could affect a child that greatly but then again, you can never know what to expect from people. A part of me was glad that I was able to serve the karma she deserved even if she didn't realize it. "Anyway enough chit chat, you need to get home. We can talk to each other again tomorrow." Grim said, interrupting my thoughts as his expression had seemed to soften. I nod as I close my eyes, feeling the shift of the environment as the air suddenly felt colder and heavier. The sounds of the city filled my ears as I opened my eyes to find myself once again in the alleyway. The woman's decapitated corpse was still there lying on the ground. The pool of blood was now dry and it had stained the concrete ground. I was surprised as to how no one noticed it yet. Though I knew I shouldn't stand around it for long so I ran deep into the alleyways. Once I had believed that I would be out of suspicion in case someone were to find the body, I slowed my pace down to a normal walk. I decided to walk through the alleyways, hoping to navigate my way back to my neighborhood but while I was walking, I heard footsteps. I didn't think of it at first, suspecting it was probably just some drunk man but then I was wrong. I heard a whizzing sound as I turned but stopped when I saw a bullet fly across my face. I froze. If I hadn't turned, then I would've gotten hit. I quickly turned towards the direction where the bullet came from. I saw a figure standing there, pointing a gun right at me. They were wearing black hoodie along with what seemed to be like black jeans with some black and white sneakers. I couldn't see their face since it was being hidden by the shade of which hood and the lighting caused. Something was off about them. I'd expected them to have a mark of a sinner but instead of that, they had a black halo that was surrounded by small triangles. That was the mark of a neutral. Someone who was no longer innocent yet had not done anything to make them a sinner or someone who committed a sin but for a reason that would get them out of being called one. They lowered their gun, took a step back, and then rushed towards me. I panicked, quickly getting into a fighting stance as I prepared to face my opponent.
