"She's bloody terrifying. Is it true she's got mermaid blood running through her veins?" asked James.

"From birth, I hear. Different from wee Remus over here," said Sirius as he swung an arm around Remus' shoulders.

"Oh, you mean his werewo - "

"Shh! Hell, Peter," hissed Remus.

"Sorry," replied Peter sheepishly.

"It's all right. Anyway, stop talking about Evanescence. It's rude," Remus reprimanded.

"A little talking never hurt anyone," claimed James. "Besides, all Slytherins are evil, vile snakes. No harm."

"Are you lot talking about Evanescence again? Knock it off, will you?" said Lily as she sat down a few feet down from them in the Great Hall.

"She's not a bad person," added Dawn.

"Because she doesn't talk at all," replied Sirius.

"She talks!" exclaimed Lily.

"To do spells," James replied, monotone.

"That counts as talking, you git," retorted Lily.

James rolled his eyes. "We get it. You like Evanescence. I don't see how you could possibly like a Slytherin."

"Worry about yourself. Azalea doesn't even like you."

"She does! She's my soulmate!" exclaimed James.

"Tell that to yourself," retorted Lily.

"Hey!"

"All right, stop fighting, you two!" exclaimed Remus.

Lily and James both crossed their arms and looked away from each other with annoyed expressions on their faces. Sirius snickered, while the others rolled their eyes.

From the opposite table, Effie was eating a blueberry muffin alone with a music score in front of her. Her eyes scanned the lyrics, ignoring any talk or stares about her. She had gotten used to them. After all, she had been attending Hogwarts for five years already and was currently in her Sixth year.

She tucked her music sheets into her robes and stood up quietly, brushing any crumbs from her mouth and shirt before leaving the Great Hall in order to be the first one to arrive at N.E.W.T. level Potions with Professor Slughorn.

She didn't love class with him, but simply disliked the overcrowded corridors and fights for partners. Being alone best suited her, after all.
