as soon as the weekend came, saerim excitedly went to her sister's room to wake her up. she was so excited to go ice skating.

saerim jumped on saera's bed and shook her. "saera unnie! it's time to wake up!"

"saerim, it's a saturday. let's sleep a bit more. the semester ended yesterday." saera mumbled and covered her face with a pillow to protect it from the little girl.

"but we're going ice skating today! i want to be the first one there!" saerim continued to shake her sister to get her out of the bed.

what time is it... her hand roamed over to her desk in search of her phone. the light of the screen aggressively shone on her face that she had to squint her eyes. 5:04 AM... what the heck. "saerim, it's too early!"

saera didn't have much of a choice. her alternate plan in chances of getting more sleep is to annoy the neighbor who'll supposedly come with them later. saerim sat up next to her older sister who's now half awake.

"hey!!! why are you calling so early for? what the f-" jay shouted in the other line. his pissed off angry bird face can be seen up close in the video call.

"no swearing! saerim's here." saera scolded him and gave him the look in the eye.

"hi jay oppa! let's go ice skating now!" saerim waved at him. she was holding the phone too close to her face like jay.

"what? right now? sweetie, the sun hasn't risen up yet so it's going to be too cold for us to skate. do you want to freeze and become a snowman?" he tried his best to compose himself and speak in a gentle manner.

saerim pouted. saera took the phone from saerim for her turn to talk with him. "what time is your friend available later? didn't you already talk with him?"

there was a silent pause on jay's video as he tried to open his messages. "uh, he said let's do it after lunch at 1pm. we'll meet him at the venue."

"you hear that, saerim? we'll go there at 1pm later. okay?" saera faced her younger sister.

"okay." saerim replied with a low tone, different from her excited voice earlier.

"now, go back to your room and sleep more. you'll need a lot of energy for ice skating later." saera kissed saerim's forehead and watched her leave the room before speaking to jay again.

"aren't you forgetting something?"

"what?"

"your apology? for waking me up in the middle of my peaceful sleep?"

saera grumbled but still did it even if it was against her will so she can go back to sleep immediately. "i'm sorry, park jongseong, for waking you up. now can we both please go back to sleep?"

"yes. good night."

"technically, it's good morning." then she ended the call before jay could yell at her once more.

after a few hours of more sleep, saera packed the helmet, protective gears, and skating shoes they've bought the other day. their driver drove the three of them to the ice skating rink located near a mall.

jay's friend waved at them as they were approaching him. he was leaning at the side of the rink, looking tall and lean. saera noticed he wasn't wearing any protective gears like them so he must be really a professional. he was also very good looking but she tried not to stare too much. she thought he looked cold until he approached them with a smile.

"hey!" he and jay did a bro hug first. "hello! you must be jay's friends? i'm sunghoon." he waved at the two sisters.

"i'm saera. nice to meet y-"

she offered a handshake but he didn't saw it because he already crouched down to saerim's eye level. jay witnessed it and laughed at her, then high-fiving her ignored hand. she put it back immediately before he can see her embarrassment.

"hi, i'm saerim! jay oppa told me you're the best ice skater!"

"you're much younger compared to when i started ice skating so i think you can be better than me." sunghoon smiled and patted her head. when he went back up, he turned to smile at saera, but she was busy fighting jay who annoyingly can't stop laughing at her embarrassing moment earlier.

saera helped put the skating shoes on her younger sister but sunghoon was the one who guided saeri. towards the rink. saerim held tight on his arm as he crouched down while walking on the ice. saera wanted to ask for his help too but she felt shy clinging to a stranger she just met, so she just clung on to the railings using one hand and the other hand on jay's jacket. they stayed like that for an hour because she was still scared.

"you won't learn if you keep on doing that." sunghoon went to them with saerim still clinging his hand, but she has gotten better at it.

"unnie! look, i'm not afraid now." saerim said proudly.

"hey, don't pressure her. it took me a while to learn it from you too." jay reasoned out for her as he continued to help her struggling walk.

"jay, you can take saerim from here. i'll teach saera."

saera refused to let go of jay at first but sunghoon took both of her hands and slowly lead her away from the railings. her eyes were closed shut and she kept screaming as she expected herself to fall any minute. he kept reminding her to not be scared.

"oh my god, i'm at the center already. please don't let go of me." her hands tightly grasped his while she tried to follow his instructions.

"i won't let go. always keep your eyes opened. now slowly try to move each leg carefully."

after they went on like that for an hour, the two of them took a break and they both leaned on the railings. 

"are you enjoying ice skating so far?"

sunghoon tried to have small talk while they rest. it was indeed very tiring to have people cling on to you for two hours straight, especially when it was his turn with saera, who couldn't stop whining the whole time.

"i'm trying my best not to hate it. i probably would have never done this if not for my younger sister." saera shrugged.

"what's with the grumpy attitude? you should love and enjoy it because christmas is all about love!" he gave her a smile to cheer her up.

"but i hate christmas." she chuckled sarcastically.

"excuse me? you hate christmas?" sunghoon asked in disbelief, emphasizing on the word hate. he hoped his ears must've heard it wrong, but no.
