I had spent the rest of the days during my stay at the Buckhorn Inn moping. James came in a few times, handing me breakfast, and a cold cup of coffee.
But I refused.
The hunger swept over me like a rush of water. it was suddenly thirsty. I stood straight up, and walked towards the entrance.
James rushed over. "Rosalie!"
"What?!" I snapped. The clear anger in my red eyes scared him. Hiding behind the desk, he cowered in fear.
I sauntered out the door, and I rushed to find the large black bear that had been on that Wanted Poster. it was drenched, but I took it, quickly drying it off.
The black bear was last seen near Smokey Mountain National Park.
I slowly walked towards the lodge, asking the locals questions about a black bear. They all turned away from me, some out of fear, and others out of rudeness. I approached the lodge, the door handle slightly turned to the right. I entered, with Emmett's family, and girlfriend, looking up at me, with huge eyes.
His mother, looked at me, with dead eyes. Her face was pale.
No.
No, NO.
His father pointed an accusing finger at me.
"You! You pushed him to do this!" his frail figure faltered, his steps becoming slower and heavier. I caught him, my speed and strength an extra precaution. Emmett's mom, who's name tag now appeared, said,
Clara.
My own mother's name. My heart softened.
His father awoke, his gaze piercing. But his glare turned to tears. "My son." he sobbed out.
His girlfriend looked scorned. "Emmett was supposed to marry me!" she showed me her wedding ring.
She took it off and threw it against the wall. "But you came along. Ruined my happily ever after." she broke down in tears.
"But," she said admittedly, "I was a little hesitant. You deserve him." there was a twinge of bitterness in her voice. She had given up. I almost forgot to blink. I embraced her, the look on my face one of surprise.
"Where's Emmett?" my voice pleading.
Clara pointed outside. "Hunting the bear."
I nodded, rushing outside. I looked hopefully towards each edge of the woods, praying Emmett was standing there, that devilish grin on his face.
I surged into the woods. In the distance, the bear roared. I ran outside, my steps faster than before. There, in a clearing, there was a limp body, his knee had been torn to shreds, the bone sticks out.
I shudder, trying to avoid looking at Emmett.
Emmett mutters something almost unintelligible. "Angel from heaven."
I smile. The bear it roaring on its hind legs. Its face is thin, its fur sagging. He hadn't eaten. I immediately felt pity, but I needed nourishment. I attacked the bear.
it immediately tried to hit me, but I was faster. Its paws threw back, angry and frustrated. It hit me, throwing me back. A tree was behind, adding more pain to the impact.
The bear nearly laughed. it picked up Emmett, ready to feast on human blood. That's when I saw. Human bodies, stacked up on the cave of the bear. The cave was hollow, but big enough.
Several of the bodies were moving, trying to escape. Emmett groaned. I couldn't save all of them. I ran for the bear, wrapping my arms around it's neck. Choking, it gave up the fight and laid silently on the ground.
Almost instantly, it transformed into a man. His bronze skin and smell were enough to make me gag. A shapeshifter. In Gatlinburg, Tennessee. After helping several of the victims return to their homes, Emmett still writhing on the ground.
I picked him up, his limp body freezing, his blood loss was immense. I pinched my nose with one hand, his body still limp. His face looked at me with awe.
Snow was packing in the mountains, making it difficult to move.
Carlisle was packing up our things, and Esme was waiting for me, by the door.
"Rosalie!" she waved over, her face a picture of perfection. Her face turned solemn when I entered the room. Carlisle's face was one of surprise.
"Mauled by a shapeshifter bear," I explained.
Carlisle nodded, inspecting his knee. I grew impatient. "Carlisle!"
He injected blue liquid into his heart, painkillers, I suppose. Then he bit him. Emmett's body writhed in pain. His face grew pale, and I could hear him screaming. I choked back a sob. Edward consoled me, telling me that it was normal. I could feel Emmett's pain, the scent of his blood permeating my smell.
I couldn't eat, not with him like this.
A few days later.
I was resting on my bed. It was about midnight.
Someone knocked on my door, letting himself in.
"Carlisle, I just want to be alone right now." his steps were heavier, and his shadow was different than Carlisle's. I turned around, expecting Edward.
Emmett's devilish grin lit up the room. I jumped into his arms, his face a wondrous pale color. His blue eyes had turned red. His face had never been more beautiful. His bulky fixture made him look absolutely muscular.
A day later.
Emmett had taken the vampire-knowledge in stride. He had never been happier to have so much strength.
"Why would I complain about being in Hell, if, there's an Angel with me?"
I kissed him over and over again, smiling at the comment.
That day, Emmett fit in spectacularly.
The balmy wind sprayed perfectly over my sun-kissed hair and lips. Emmett wrapped his arms around me.
"Hey, Rose."
"Don't start."
And we're left there smiling.
"You may now kiss the bride."
I can barely hear the priest, his words almost a whisper.
Emmett dips me, kissing me hard on the lips. I smile. This may not be Happily Ever After, but it will certainly be Forever.
