"On the 15th of May 2019, the defendant Mr. Nam Do Jae follow the victim to her house. Base on the cctv footage that we got from the alley close to victim's house, he drag her and rape the victim and killed her. The prosecution ask for 30 years imprisonment according to Criminal code 32 Article 297." Lisa said for her closing statement. Lisa Manoban, well-known prosecutor in South Korea. She is a ruthless prosecutor, she never let her guard down in every case that she has.
"Another case, another record my dear prosecutor." Jisoo happily said, it's her paralegal and best friend. "Come on Jisoo, you know the outcome, the evidence is too clear so there is no reason to not convict the defendant." Lisa seriously said while waiting for the elevator door to open. "Chill, I'm just congratulating you. Why always so stiff." Jisoo whisper the last part.
Lisa is in her office, reviewing some of her future cases. "Hey Liz, aren't you going out? It's late." Jisoo asked her. It's past work time but her nose still stick on her paperworks. "I'll finish this up and go home." Lisa answer. "You sure? Okay. Bye Limario. Good night." "Bye Chu, take care." Lisa finished her work and went straight to her house and sleep.
Weeks had passed and everything went smoothly not until this day. It is 8pm when Jisoo hurriedly go to Lisa's office. "Lisa!" "I don't have much time chu, what is it?" Lisa asked without looking at her. "You have a new case. But, you won't believe who is the accuse culprit." Jisoo said. "What case? And who is the victim and suspect?" Lisa asked calmly then look at Jisoo. "The victim is Kai, Kim Jongin and the prime suspect is... Jennie Kim."
Upon hearing Jisoo, she felt like someone pour her a bucket of ice water. Jennie Kim. She never thought that she will ever hear her name again, after how many years. "Kai's body found in Jennie's apartment. Kai is her ex boyfriend and chairman's son." This is not good. Lisa rush to the chairman's office.
"Prosecutor Manoban. I'm handling you my son's case. Make sure that the girl will be imprison. Make sure that the justice is still alive." Chairman Kim said woth full of authority. "Chairman, why me? I mean there's alot of good prosecutor than me, much more veteran, why?" "Are you turning down this case? Your reputation is good nowadays and I know that you'll do everything for the sake of your career. My mind is made up, your taking the case no matter what and make sure that you will put her on jail or else you won't step a foot again in this firm."
Lisa have no choice but to follow the chairman's words. You'll be fine Lisa, just do what you always do. She's trying to encourage herself. She's on her way to police station where Jennie is detained.
"Good evening, I'm Prosecutor Lisa Manoban" she handed the police her business card. "You're the prosecutor for Kim Jongin case?" Police asked. "Yes. And I'm here to see Jennie Kim." "That cell." The police point to an empty cell. Lisa bow to the officer and went to the cell. It looks like empty because the person inside is in the dark corner of cell. Lisa looked at her. Jennie's wearing a white blouse tuck in to a denim high waist pants. Her clothes has a blood stain, her hand covered with blood. She's also wearing specs. What you gotten yourself into Jennie? Lisa question in her mind.
She enter the cell and approach Jennie. The feline eyes met her doe eyes. Jennie eyes light up upon seeing Lisa's figure in front of her. She stand up and get closer to Lisa. "Lisa" she softly said. Don't let emotions take you Lisa, you're here as her prosecutor not someone who will visit her. "I will be your prosecutor with this case. I came here to inform you in three days, trial will be hold for the case of Mr. Kim Jongin and for you Ms. Jennie Kim is the prime suspect of this case. I'll come back tomorrow for questionings. Take off your clothes and clean yourself. Your clothes need to be examine." Lisa continuesly said. "I did nothing wrong. I didn't kill him I swear." Save your explanation for tomorrow Ms. Kim." Lisa answered.
Lisa is at her house right now. She's been bugging by Jennie's word.
"Save your explanation for tomorrow Ms. Kim" I said. "I'm rooting on you Lisa, I know I'm being ridiculous right now after what happened to us but, I'll trust you. Your to only person that I can root for." Lisa dialed a number. "Hello? Can you do something for me?"
Jennie's inside the interrogation room when Lisa came in. She sit infront of Jennie. "Ms. Jennie Kim, your here at police station for questioning about the murder case of Mr. Kim Jongin. You have the right to remain silent. Every words that you say may said used against you. Do you understand?" Jennie just nod while Lisa just give her glimpse. "Do you know that your being accused as the prime suspect with this case?" Jennie didn't answer. "This is the statement from the part timer in the convinient store, said she had a customer but she doesn't remember the face of the customer." "I didn't kill him." "There is no CCTV camera in your area so no one will proved that you went outside from." Lisa explained. "What do I have to do believe me? I said I didn't kill him."
Lisa just look at her. If she's still the same Lisa before she would get closer and hug the feline beauty but this is different, she is different. "Even how much I try, to convince peoplr that I did not kill him, no one believes me." She starting to sob. "I told myself that I will change, I have a goal, for the first time in my life, I have a goal a dream. I never though that I will experience this. This might be my karma." She chuckled while crying. "Can I ask a favor, please at least telk me that that you believe me, at least if I went to jail I know that someone believe in me."
It's the day of the trial. There inside the court room and waiting for the judge to arrive. Jennie is nervous, no she's terrified. Never in her life she thinks that she will be part of a court trial much worse she's the defendant. For Lisa, this is the first trial that she's not comfortable with. Gosh! Why I'm so nervous?! Lisa thinks.
"Please, everyone stand up for the arrival of the judge." One of the court personnel said. Everyone stand up. Once the judge sit in her chair, everyone sit also. The trial start. "Let's hear the prosecution opening statement." The judge says. "On the 23rd of June, 2019 at 9 in the evening, the defendant Ms. Jennie Kim lure her ex boyfriend which is the victim Mr. Kim Jongin to her apartment and kill him. Base on the autopsy, she stab him with a knife." Lisa stated. Every person inside the court room felt the heavy atmosphere. Whisper will hear in each corner pf the court room.
"Attorney, will you confirm the allegation of the prosecution?" The judge ask the Attorney. "No, your honor. We deny all the allegation of the prosecution. We plead for not guilty." Attorney Park Chaeyoung said. Another sets of whisper aroused inside the court room. Jennie look at Lisa. Lisa look at Jennie. When their eyes met, Lisa saw that Jennie is scared. Everyone is afraid and excited at the same of what will be the result of this trial.
"You said that you heard the defendant cursing and threatening the victim because he cheated on her, is that right?" Lisa asked one of the witness. "Yes, I'm not the only who heard her saying those things." When the prosecutor stop with her question the attorney started to question the witness. " "I will kill you, I'm going to break you", those words are naturally came out to an angry person, especially if a person cheats on you. Have seen it happened? Do you think the defendant mean it?" Attorney Park question. "She mean every word she said. A person will be guilty enough. She won't say it if she doesn't mean it." "You said the same statement in the police station correct? "I will kill you. You'll pay for this." That's the exact words that you said. If we follow what you said you are guilty too." Chaeyoung retorded. The witness look dumbfounded by her. "That's all your honor."
It's time for Jennie to defend herself. "I will nver kil him. Yes I admit that I cursed and threatened him but I never meant to say those words. If I have plan of killing him, why should I let everyone know my plan?" She stop for a moment then proceed. She look at Lisa. "I know I've done terrible things in the past, hurting someone's feeling" Lisa is not looking at her because she knows what Jennie mean. Jennie look at the judge and jury. "I admit, when he cheated on me I'm so mad that I could hurt him but when I realized that I've done the same thing before, I hurt someone's feeling before, I said it must be karma." She said those words trying to contain her tears to fall.
The trial with proceed after two days. They finalize have the prosecutor and attorney closing statement. That they they will hear the final verdict of the judge. Lisa is on the verge of losing her mind. She haven't got any sleep or rest because of the trial. She always wanted to be a good prosecutor, where in she will put justice to those who needed it. She put everything just to make sure to fullfil her duty. But this time, make one wrong move and everything will be gone. It's me or her. Lisa thought.
