An academic reflection on the nature and theory of historical studies, the historian him/herself and the implications the past ought to provide us with in regards to the present and future. Certainly a well-written book, but I found much of it going above my head a bit. Carr was also a bit of a Marxist sympathiser - he was a left-wing theorist at the end of the day. I wouldn't expect anything less.
