Author: Hillary Rodham Clinton

Publication Date: 2014

Rating: 4/5

Since reading this in 2018, I've been adamant about my wife - who is actually, for the most part, a lefty - reading this. Though I strongly disliked Clinton at the time, and still don't like her post-2016, I really enjoyed this book and it instilled in me a level of respect for the woman I hadn't expected or, truth be told, really wanted. Hell, even if much of this book is embellished as Clinton's many detractors inevitably say it is - and which I don't think actually is the case overall - she is a damned good writer, informative and engaging. Her experiences as Secretary of State during the first four Obama years provide an excellent insight into the high pressure life such a duty entails.

Granted, I didn't enjoy this as much the second time, when I read it with my wife. I found it kind of boring at times, already knowing and I think exaggerating the exciting details of much of what happens in my memory. But it's a great read, no less. You do have to hand it to her. She has, whatever her flaws, worked damn hard for her country and, though I still would vote Trump over her if I was an American - (I'd vote both of them any day over that sleepy, creepy Old Man Biden) - I think I can confidently say she would have made a good (probably better) president, all things told. It's just a shame so many of the people she represents are disgusting, baby-aborting, war-mongering, God-hating lunatics. I think her country owes her more than it seems to believe. But maybe that's just the kind-of ex-neocon in me talking. I know I would lose respect from nearly all conservatives for saying that, and I know many radical leftists I largely agree with hate the woman as well. That's just my opinion though. I won't hate her just because she's a Democrat. I'll simply dislike her instead.
