The sun rose over the horizon in Sandgem Town, casting a golden hue over the sleepy streets. The air was fresh with the scent of the sea, and the cries of Wingull could be heard overhead as three friends strolled along, heading toward the beachfront.
These three friends were Y/n, Issei, and Tatsumi.
Tatsumi, the strategist of the group, had always been meticulous. He had spent countless hours researching Pokémon, delving into every strength and weakness across various types. His dedication was particularly strong for Fire and Steel types—a combination that fascinated him, even if it seemed unusual to some.
Issei brought a different perspective. New to the world of Pokémon, he was determined to forge his own path. His approach was spontaneous, catching any Pokémon that intrigued him regardless of type. The thrill of discovery drove him, and his enthusiasm was contagious.
Y/n, on the other hand, was the more laid-back member of the trio. He understood type matchups well but didn't let them dictate his choices. His goal was to form bonds with Pokémon he felt a connection with. Despite his relaxed demeanor, Y/n had done his homework on the Gym Leaders of Sinnoh, knowing which Pokémon to prepare for their battles.
Y/n had pre-emptively called dibs on Turtwig and Tatsumi had already called dibs on Chimchar, which left Piplup for Issei. Y/n knew that Piplup's evolution, Empoleon, would gain a Steel type, and wanted Issei to have a solid fighting chance against their future challenges.
Growing up together in Sandgem Town, the trio shared a bond forged through years of friendship. Y/n, however, originally hailed from Celestic Town, a small village in Northern Sinnoh known for its rich history. His parents were even acquainted with the Sinnoh region's Champion, Cynthia.
Issei had originally come from the Kanto Region before moving to Sinnoh, while Tatsumi hailed from Johto. Despite their different origins, the three were as close as brothers.
Apart from their Pokémon journeys, each of them had unique talents and hobbies. Issei was surprisingly athletic for his build and he enjoyed rock climbing and long runs around Lake Verity. Tatsumi, always the strategic thinker, planned ahead for every potential type disadvantage. Y/n was a musician, proficient with both the guitar and piano, and he had a knack for nurturing any wild Pokémon that wandered into his garden.
When not helping at home or exploring the nearby Verity Lake, the three friends often played music together. Tatsumi handled the bass, Issei was their drummer, and they shared plenty of laughs as they attempted (and often failed) to sing.
As they reached the beachfront, the sun's rays stretched across the horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange. They exchanged knowing smirks as Issei sat down on the sand, the excitement of their upcoming adventure palpable in the cool morning air.
Issei: "So, lemme see if I got this. Y/n's called dibs on Turtwig."
