The Beta's Mate

chapter 5

I woke up in a hospital bed, my ankle had been wrapped up in an ugly brown bandage and my cut on my torso had already healed, just leaving a small pink stain from where my blood had been.

"ugh what happened" I moaned my head throbbing from the earlier events. My vision cloudy as my eyes were adjusting to the bright lights the doctor was shining in my eyes.

"well miss Lions you don't have a concussion and if you did it is already healed. Do you remember what happened to you?" she asked looking me over and checking my ankle to see how it was heeling. I have never met this doctor before seeing as I have never had a reason to but she seemed nice. you could tell she was older as she had streaks of grey through her hair and wrinkles lining her brown eyes.

" yes I was attacked by a rogue I think?" I tried to explain only to be interrupted by my very worried mate.
"Are you okay? How are you feeling? Do you need more pain medication? How is your ankle is it okay?" he rushed at me. Looking my body over worry lined his eyes. He quickly brought me a cup of water and adjusted my pillows so that I was able to sit up.

"I'm fine" I replied quickly. The memories of what had happened only a little while ago came flooding back into my mind. The bad breath the scary scar the knife. Everything at one came flooding back overwhelming me with question and the need to figure out what happened and why me? I have been to that creek many, many times and nothing like that has every happened to me before so was this a fluke or was I purposely targeted, or maybe I was just in the wrong place at the wring time.

"what happened? "I asked again this time looking at Xavier

"you were attacked don't you remember?" he said worry lining his face he walked over to me with concern and what seemed like love in his eyes?

"yes I know I was attacked I meant do you know who did this to me?" I tried clarifying. He broke eye contact with me running his hands through his dark brown hair. turning away from me he took a couple steps towards the door and then turned back around to look at me but he just stayed silent.

"well I'm going to take that as a yes. You can tell me I'm a big girl you know." anger was rising in my chest I felt hurt that he was trying to resist telling me what he knew. after all I was the one who was attacked and I felt like I deserved to get answers to what happened to me.

He turned back around to look at me his blue eyes searching my face for a moment before he made his way to my bed and took a seat next to my unhurt foot.

" I'm sorry I didn't mean to insult you I was just..... really scared when I heard you scream. I didn't know it was you at first but I had a feeling and then my wolf went crazy and that's when I knew it was you. you were just laying on the ground and I seen blood and the fear in you eyes and that just makes me want to never let you leave my sight."

my heart softened with his word. I reached my hand out to touch his every so slightly. I gave him a small smile in which he returned

" thank you for saving me out there. I was scared. I have been to that creek a hundred times and nothing like this has ever happened to me. that has always been my safe place. that's where I go to relax and unwind. That's why I want answers as to why this happened. was this an attack against me? I don't even know anyone. or was I just simply in the wrong place at the wrong time?" I asked him again this time with more power in my voice. I was determined to figure out why this had happened.

" no it wasn't a rogue?" he answered simply not saying anything else. giving me more questions than answers.

" so it was someone from our pack then?"

"no...." he sighed

"it was our old beta. When he was kicked out of this pack he went insane he is hell bent on getting revenge even though he is the reason he got kicked out of the pack. He was a terrible Beta. But there are rumors he wants to infiltrate our pack so he can kill the alpha and try to take his position. He knows that's a long shot but he will do anything to try to rile our pack up or make a distraction." he answered trying to keep his voice calm like it was no big deal a mad man was trying to kill our alpha.
