An ancient sign could be seen hanging above the second-to-last shop on the street. The air was stale around it, and the wood was cracked from years worth of frost and summer, frost and summer, frost and summer. The writing was extremely cursive, and faded gold, so much that I almost mistook the writing to say ‘eye sockets’. which is the name of a store I’d prefer, I think, to ignore.

Castiel looked at it fondly, then held the old wooden door open for me, as I practically jumped into the room.

heat warmed my cheeks, and I felt my fingers start to tingle, the numbness of the cold seeping away wonderfully.

The first thought that struck me, as Castiel closed the door behind us with the clamor of a small brass bell, was that this place looked a hell of a lot like ‘Ollivanders’ or the book store from harry potter. Every shelf was jam-packed, and covered in dust. Piles of boxes and parchments and books and materials with every kind of old fashioned pen you could dream up filled the rows of the entirely wooden room. The store was very open near the front nonetheless, and bookshelves filled the space in front of me. looking up, I saw a chandelier covered in cobwebs and dust, hanging from the top of what would have been the second floor ceiling.

“Wow.” I said bluntly,

“Don’t you love it?”

I looked at him blankly, “Well I..” I pretended that I didn’t,

“Aw c’mon!”

“Love it” I smiled,

“Don't kid like that!" he sighed in relief, "Vindictus is here somewhere..”

“Who?”

“The shop keeper.” he muttered, pulling me between the book cases and further towards the back of the shop which--granted--was bigger than I thought.

There was a coughing from somewhere to our right, and the sound of shuffling. I peered round a particularly over-stuffed bookcase, and saw a bent-backed old man rubbing his back, which was turned to me. He coughed again, and I saw his wild white hair fly about as his body shook. he even looked like the shop keeper from ‘Ollivanders’.

Castiel broke out a smile, and walked over towards the man as he reached up to get a book on a shelf a little higher than he seemed to be able to reach. Just as the man pulled it down, several books were pulled out as well, and were about to hit the man in the head when Castiel caught all three just a second before impact.

“Castiel..” muttered Vindictus rather displeasingly,

“Vindictus,” he smiled politely,

“Havent seen you in.. what is it now..” he scratched his balding head, “not long enough..” he muttered, shuffling off down another corridor, snatching one of the books out of Castiel’s hands.

“Good to see you too Vindictus.”

He grunted in response.

“This is Ava.” Cas gestured to me,

Vindictus turned reluctantly to face me, one eyebrow raised, he gave me an appraising look then spoke bitterly to Castiel, “She is far out of your league.”

I suppressed some laughter. I expected Castiel to retort, but he smiled back and said nothing.

Vindictus turned back to what he was doing, then shuffled off with another book, heading to, of what I could see, looked like a desk on the far right-back corner of the store.

“I need the usual supplies Vindictus.” said Cas, following him to the counter.

“Yes, yes..” Vindictus said impatiently, “In time.. but--“ he turned to me, “is there anything I can do for you my dear?” he said in a startlingly sweeter voice, he even smiled,
