The plane from Oregon touched down at Heathrow airport in London. The Parsons family had briefly been to the UK before, yet for muggle-born Alice, this was a world full of the unknown. They didn't know how long they would be here or when they would go back to America, with the rise of a dark force in the foreign country there was so much left to uncover.
Clover Parsons and Alice Sampson had been friends since they could remember, meeting at no-maj elementary school the pair became inseparable. Alice was the intimidating loud mouth that would protect Clover from the mere mention of harm. Clover being the nurturing healer that would piece Alice back up when harm punched back. Facing an adventure one right after another the girls were not as well prepared as they usually were for what the next expedition would entail. They would be starting their first year (well technically 3rd) at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Clover's parents were some of the most well-known and respected aurors the American wizarding world had seen in years, and with the rise of a dark force emerging in the UK, their abilities were needed. This meant all the Parsons, Jeff, Clara, Clover, and Clementine would be moving to the English countryside with their resident daughter Alice. Alice's parents were no-maj's, not knowing what to do with the young spunky witch they sent her off to attend an unknown school in an unknown country with her best friend and her magical family. This was the beginning of something the girls never would have expected.
They stood at the very back of the line after a long trail of first years, being 14 and 15 years old the girls were much taller than the younger children. The girls stood out like sore thumbs, they would catch glances from the students sitting at the long tables with colorful flags above them. Alice gave those who dared look at her and Clover a stoic terrifying glare back that made them look away with a sharp turn, yet almost the complete opposite her bubbly counterpart would wave and smile at the small glances. As the pair neared the front they noticed they were the last two to be sorted. The Great Hall filled with quiet whispers on where they thought the girls were to be sorted. Unbeknownst to them, the Slytherin table eagerly awaited who they thought would be their latest edition of the year. With the cold glares, long black hair that came down in waves, and the lack of emotion present in her face Alice would have to be a Slytherin. Yet at the opposite end of the hall, the excited Hufflepuff table chattered about who they thought their newest addition would be. With her kind eyes, gentle smile, and blonde hair that cascaded down her shoulders, they surely thought that Clover was bound to be a Hufflepuff.
Dumbledore, the headmaster, hushed the hall of rowdy students and began his monologue, "Here at Hogwarts we welcome all those who wish to learn the adventure and power that magic holds, this year I will be welcoming two new students who have come to attend Hogwarts from America." The hall erupted with noise as the students who residented the UK wondered why two Americans had traveled this far just to attend wizard school. Surely there was a wizarding school in the United States? Dumbledore once again hushed the hall of students "First we have Clover Parsons who will be starting her third year at our wonderful school. Clover, will you please sit down in front of Professor McGonagall? Then you can be sorted into one of the four houses. Slytherin, represented by a snake, ambitious and cunning, prideful of silver and emerald. Gryffindor, represented by a lion, courageous and determined, prideful of gold and red. Ravenclaw, represented by an eagle, intelligent and witty, prideful of blue and bronze. And finally, Hufflepuff, represented by a badger, loyal and kind, prideful of yellow and black. " Clover approached the stool and sat down, the mangy old hat was placed on her head and almost as soon as it was placed on her blonde hair it shouted "HUFFLEPUFF!". The Great Hall erupted in cheers from the table with the black and yellow flag above it, their prediction was right and they had the newest member of their house. With a beckoning motion Alice sat on the stool as she watched her best friend approach her new house sitting at the very end of the table with Clementine who had also been sorted into Hufflepuff with the other first-year students, they looked at each other and Clover smiled while Alice reciprocated with a small smirk. The sorting hat was placed on her long dark locks yet didn't say a word, just looking very quizzical. The hall became silent as the hat determined the outcome of her new life, she sat there staring straight ahead. "Hmm, difficult decision... Courageous yet cunning." The hat said in a great billowing voice. Another ten seconds beside the previous thirty had passed and the girl grew anxious yet stayed poise so no one would see her true feelings. "HUFFLEPUFF!". A few claps here and there as well as the applause from the teachers, everyone was surprised. Although they had yet to meet the duo they were very different, not only in appearance but as well as attitude. Alice sat down next to Clover, relieved she would remain with her friend as the Hufflepuff table finally cheered for their newest American additions.
As the ceremony continued and Dumbledore gave a great speech the girls couldn't help but feel multiple pairs of eyes on them. A group of three from the Gryffindor table, one redheaded, another brown, and lastly one black, as well as a brunette towards the end holding an ugly toad. Looking across the vast tables Clover caught the eye of a pale-faced platinum-haired boy staring straight into her head, she smiled yet he only grimaced back earning a shiver down her spine. Although the girls knew they would be together they could only hope that the things they experienced the next five years at Hogwarts would make them stronger witches than they could ever hope, if only they knew what approached.
