Chapter 1
Kenma Kozume definitely enjoyed the west coast. He'd been living her for.. Six day now. Huh. It seemed like it had been more. Today had been his second day of classes, and he was walking to a nearby park to sit down and study. The weather in the bay area was nice, not too hot, but not too warm. Studying outside also prevented him from getting distracted by games-at least to some extent. He had saved up to buy himself a second gaming PC for his dorm, and had already spent almost all of his time playing on it.
Not that playing that much was abnormal for him. Since middle school, Kenma's only hobbies have been gaming, reading, and coding. Before that, he'd dabbled in sports and real life friends, but decided those weren't for him. He thought that college might change this, but so far, that showed no signs of happening.
He arrived at an area with a few table, most of them already full. A mother crocheted as her kids played in the distance, some students stared into their textbooks, and an elderly couple sat quietly and read.
Kenma sat down at the last empty one, and laid out his books. He opened up his chemistry textbook, but before he could start reading, a deep male voice said
"Mind if I sit down? All the other tables are taken."
Kenma looked up, his blonde hair falling onto his face. The guy was tall, with black hair and brownish yellow eyes. He was also extremely athletically built. For some reason, he felt like he knew him from somewhere.
"Uh.. Yeah." Kenma hastily moved his books over to one side of the table. "Please, go ahead."
"Thanks!" he sat down. "You look really familiar by the way. Are you from the Chicago area by any chance?"
"Nope. I'm from Connecticut." Kenma said, his mind not really on the guy anymore. He was thinking about the new minecraft server he'd recently discovered.
"Hey wait a second..... Are you Kenma Kozume?"
Kenma looked up immediately, extremely startled. He looked at the guy's face, who was waiting in anticipation for Kenma to recognize him.
"You're Tetsuro Kuroo, aren't you!" Kenma snapped his fingers in revelation. Kenma looked Kuroo up and down"You've... grown."
"You haven't!" Kuroo chuckled. "Honestly Kozume, you can't be more than like 5'3!"
"I'm 5'6 actually, so I can be."
"Oh huh. Sorry."
"No, it's okay. I'm just simply stating a fact." Kenma shrugged. "So how's Chicago?"
"It's great! I love being able to walk everywhere, unlike in Norwalk. The schools are probably a little worse, but I like all my friends there..."
It seemed to Kenma that Kuroo hadn't changed much at all- he was still a total chatterbox. As Kenma nodded and laughed at all the correct times, he realized that he still knew Kuroo really well. In fact, he was sure they could go back to being next friends in a matter of weeks. But he had missed out on so much of Kuroo's life. Kuroo was telling him about Junior prom now. Apparently, he had been popular during high school (figures), and a lot of girls had asked him out. But then his girl best friend was sad that her boyfriend broke up with her, and so he went with her.
"That's really kind of you." Kenma responded.
"Thanks. I mean, she's really nice to me all the time, so I was just repaying the favor. It's not like we were actually dating... Speaking of dating..." Kuroo went on to tell Kenma about his first girlfriend- sophomore year, who he broke up with after he found out she did drugs and wouldn't let anyone help her with her addiction. He then told him a few more stories, ending with how he accidentally got drunk at his graduation party.
"So how's your life been?"
Kenma sighed. His life was nowhere near as interesting. He was a lonely gay gamer boy who's only friend was a gay gamer weeb girl who had ten million other friends she needed to make time for. He had strict asian parents who never let him out of the house to party, lived in a town full of borderline homophobic people, and there were five gay guys at his school, two of which where always dating at any given time, two of which were popular bastards, one who definitely got drunk every weekend, one of who was friends with his friend so if they had a bad breakup Reahlynne (A/N, this is just an OC of mine i chose to be Kenma's best friend, feel free to think of her as y/n if you're like me and wanna be Kenma's best friend) would have to choose between the two of them. The last gay guy was somehow more of a bottom then Kenma himself.
"Kozume?" Kuroo look concerned, and Kenma realized he'd drifted out of reality.
"Oh umm. Well I play video games a lot. I like things like Call of Duty, overwatch, and Minecraft. I'm on social media a lot. I like reading manga and watch anime too."
"That's cool. I'm not really a gamer, but I'll watch anime and I'm on some social media. I'm literally addicted to tiktok."
"Okay but what side of tiktok?"
"I get some dancing videos, but also some alt stuff, and a lot of things about punk fashion and the subculture in general. A lot of deep fried videos."
"Huh." Kenma nodded, and listed off some of his tiktok subgenres, but his brain was hard at work. Was Kuroo on gay tiktok? Did he support LGBTQ+? Was he gay? Probably no, he only talked about girls in his life summary. But he could be Bisexual. Kenma reminded himself. It didn't really matter though. As long as Kuroo didn't hate him for being gay. And Kenma didn't need to come out. He'd feel safer if he didn't.
"Kenma?"
"Oh sorry, I'm kinda tired."
"Yeah I can tell, your mind keeps wandering to other places. Wanna get coffee?"
