Every empire has it's own foundation.
Or in other words a social construct of different positions. You have, at the bottom of the pyramid the slaves.
Even though they build most of the cities and everything else like boats, statues, etc, they are not given much credit.
It's like a way of saying "yes you were probably better off as a poor citizen, but we saved you from famine by giving you a purpose, food, and shelter and now you are still alive because of us wich is why you have to make it your life's duty to serve your masters until death and you do not get any credit, money or in general, a normal life" .Moving on, we then have the farmers and the artisans.
They are, what I like to call, "The providers" since they built our necessities such as food and clothings. I guess you could say they live a better life than a servant does but still not good enough to care about- harsh. After that we have the scribes and the soldiers.
They're a necessities. They ensure our norms and our safety. Without them we would be lost and would probably not even have an empire. You could say that if your daughter married either one of those, or your son holds one of those positions, they bring joy and prosperity.Government officials, the second richest folk of any empire- the arrogant misogynistic men. I think you can tell that I don't really like them- heck no one does! The main reason being, they are SO annoying. Let me elaborate. Having so much power you tend to become cocky and think too highly of yourself wich leads to arrogance and other, lets say, attributes.
Last but not least, The Pharaoh And his Family.
The leaders of the empire. The descendants of the Gods. Over all rich and power.
Wich I guess I fall in that category.I'm a princess, THE princess of the Egyptian Empire. Or as others call me, the beautiful burden. You see, I am an only child, wich if you didn't know, is a bad thing. Why you may ask. Well when you are blessed from the blood line of Gods and Godesses you want to keep the blood line going and expand the family tree. It's a form of self power. Having a lot of children insure the safety of empires since there's a lot of potential rulers wich also helps with alliances.
In my case, my mother sadly endured plenty of miscarriages to my siblings after my birth. In any other scenario a woman shames her family by not providing heirs to her husband as her duty, but my mother is a Queen, and she doesn't see it necessarily in that point of view. She believes that if the Gods do not bless her with more children it means that they have big plans for me and that a new era will be set. My father wants to believe that, I guess he needs to believe it because that's the openly thing keeping him from imploding. Don't get me wrong, my father loves my mother and didn't marry another because of that issue, and he treats me very well.
Call it guilt, but I know very well that he is hurt by the situation and is constantly in fear of an attack by enemies who sees this as a form of weakness.
I guess you could say that my purpose is to live up to those expectations and make them proud. A good thing is that I am know as the most beautiful "princess" in the world and my beauty is being praised every day ever since I became a 'woman', and that I get many suitors who ask for my hand, but my father refuses, you know because of "the big plans" set by the Gods and doesn't think that they are worthy of me. Or maybe he's being a little over protective because I'm his daughter- only daughter.Servant: Bithiah, she said as she bowed when she came in the garden, Pharaoh is seeking your presence in the throning room.
Me: Thank you, I answered as I nodded my head to indicate her to leave.
(A/N: translation-Bithiah is what a Pharaoh's daughter called. She recieves the title from God as a reward for her actions. It means the daughter of God)Me: Aba, umi, I said as I entered the throne room and bowed.
(A/N: translation-Father, Mother)I stared to become nervous. Some scribes and the government officials were in the throne room as well, wich don't get me wrong, it's totally normal at gatherings or events but on a normal afternoon, it's not common...
Pharaoh: Bithiah Nefertiti, he pauses, Shokran, etfadalo, he said as everyone in the room left leaving me, mother and father alone.
(A/N: translation- thank you, leave)Queen: Mabrouk ya benti, my mother said while she got up from her lounge chair and gave me a kiss and hugged me afterwards.
(A/N: translation- Congratulations daughter)I was confused, it's not common to be congratulated, at least when you didn't do anything. I look up to my father to catch him smiling at me.
Me: What's going on, I asked confused.
Pharaoh: The Gods are smiling down on us Nefertiti. We have some exciting news that will bring joy to the land of Egypt, he said with certainty, We have found you a suitable husband and a strong allieAt this point I am not surprised, not only because of the countless tries of proposals that have been ignored but also because I know my place and my duty as the Pharaoh's daughter. The subject of arranged marriages is less taboo and more realistic. I new ever since I was younger that I would eventually have to get married for the sake of my country and for my people.
Me: Who is he? I asked curiously.
Queen: Prince Philip of France
(A/N: I don't know if that's a real prince of France, hopefully not because I don't want you guys to be confused. Just know that this isn't accurate ok :) )
Pharaoh: And he only has one sister, which is a great opportunity for you to have most of the riches since he is the only male heir. Now go and get ready, we will have a big feast tomorrow night for when they arrive.Stepping out of my shoes, I can see clearly now. I was going to get married.
It was actually going to happen. Most girls dream of this day, well I'm not like most girls. I'm basically automatically an outcast with the title that I hold. I won't lie though, having all this pride of being praise by any man I've met and the stories being told of my beauty, it made me believe that I wouldn't just marry anyone. I believed that I'd marry this king who only had eyes for me and would kill to get me and protect me at all cost, but alas theses where just imaginary scenarios that a young girl would think of. I eventually got tutored by my father and learned everything that I need to know; mathematics, history, literature, war strategies, and languages. Lots and lots of languages. Let's just say my father wanted me to be prepared to take over the throne one day if I ended up not finding a suitable husband before he died, but he also wanted me to be intelligent and punctual, not just a pretty face and I thank him for that. I even join him and mother in gatherings with the government officials, who obviously didn't like that and secretly wish to dethrone me if my father died and that one of them would marry me. Men I tell you.
Me: Yes father, I said as I bowed and left with my soldiers following behind, that father insisted that I have for my protection.
May the Gods be with me.
