🌹Chapter 24🌹

Kayla's POV
"What the hell just happened," she said or more like screamed my ears out.
I stutter trying but failing to think of a reasonable and suitable lie to tell her as to why my boss was at my four by this time of the night and why I slammed the door in his face.

My thoughts were interrupted by her continued rant "I just came down to grab my phone which I forgot so I could go to bed but can you guess what I saw. I saw your boss at your house at this ungodly hour of the night and you just slammed the door right in his face. Could you tell me why was that?" she yelled making Noah come down the stairs probably to enquire what the whole ruckus was about.

'Well good why don't we call the neighbors and order some food since it's already turning into a party.'

"What is the whole tirade all about?" Noah asked groggily. I sigh worried about what they'd think about what I'm about to tell them concerning the proposal Kyle put out.

Heading over to the couch, I seat and wave them over getting comfortable to break the news to them.

"So today I was informed through e-mail that I was not supposed to come to work today as Liam, my boss, was not on seat. I stayed the morning at home since I had nothing else to do until I received a call from Liam telling me to come over to this particular address "

I paused looking at them seeing them looking intently back at me so I continued  "I went over there and I saw Mr. Liam and his friend Kyle, turns out Kyle owned the place I went to. I was shocked to see Mr. Liam in the stat he was in, he looked so shattered and it alarmed me but what came out of Kyle's mouth next shocked me to the core 'He asked me to get married to Liam' and I ran out of there which brings us to now." I finished and looked at them to see Noah beaming with excitement and Lilly spotting a deep frown on her face.

"Omg, why did you not say this sooner. I need to start shopping for a new suit as you are about to be a bride" Noah said grinning from ear to ear but I was sorry to burst his bubble.

"No Noah I'm not about to be any stupid bride. Yes I understand he is hurt his mum is lying unconscious in the hospital and all he wants to do is to fulfill her last request but I won't do it" I said strongly. I've made up my mind I won't do it even if it pains my heart to see her and him in that condition.

"What? Why won't you do it I thought you said you cared for her." He said looking confused. I make a move to explain to him but Lilly cut me off shunning Noah.

"You heard her she is not going to get tied down to an ignoble man all for the sake of being nice," she says and I nod glad that she is in support of my choice but Noah still looks like his mind is unchanged.

"Anyways guys if that is all I'd like to go to bed now I'm sure I have to go to work tomorrow," I said before bading them goodbye and I go upstairs to get some much-needed sleep.

Morning

I yawn stretching out all the knotted muscles before standing up to go to the bathroom. Today I surprisingly got up before the alarm and I decided it does not hurt to get in early today so I had a long relaxing bath before putting on my outfit for the day.

I had to the kitchen to make breakfast but I see that Lilly already beat me to it. On the counter, I see different yummy kinds of stuff such as cookies, doughnuts, cake, and much more delightful delicacies.

I approach the counter before trying to grab one of the frosted doughnuts but Lilly smacked me before I could even touch it.

"Those are not for you they are for Evan's school's sale to raise some money," she said and I frowned.

How come I'm just hearing this. Why did Evan not tell me about this and how does Lilly know? It was like she knew what I was thinking so she told me that it was when she went over to lick him up his class teacher informed her of the bake sale and seeing as I was stressed out yesterday she took it to open herself to help out.

Now see this is why we loved Lilly, though she always chastised us, she never failed to make us happy and relieve us of heavy burdens the best way she can. I smile and thank her for that before moving to the pantry to make myself some coffee to take to work.

Once I was done with my light breakfast Evan was already up so I kissed him goodbye before hailing a cab and going to the office.

At the office, I attended to Mr. Liam's request while acting as though everything that transpired yesterday was a dream and I guess he understood and accepted my answer he did not bother me about it today.

It was time for a meeting with one of our biggest clients and I went to his office to call him. On our way, he received a call which made his whole demeanor change and he ordered that the driver turned the car in the opposite direction.

I was scared and confused about what was happening. I did not understand what was going on until we pulled up in front of the hospital and I figured the phone call had to do with his mother. Mr. Liam ran out of the car into the building with me behind him trying to match his long strides. We approached the receptionist and she told us the room his mother was in.

Entering there the state I saw her in was terrible. There were many machines hooked up to her and her once vibrant and glowing skin had become pale. She looked like she suffering and I could not help but feel the pain Mr. Liam felt at that moment.

The doctor entered and Mr. Liam went straight to him demanding an explanation for what happened to his mother and what the doctor said next made me rethink my decision.
