The shrine that you both temporarily occupied was almost barren, save for a small stone statue of a minor god sitting on a small table, adorned with large cracks and moss that looked permanently inked into its skin.

A small wooden plate was placed in front, empty, meant to hold food offerings from passing individuals. A candle stood beside the statue unlit, wet from the few droplets of rain that made their way inside.

You set your eyes on the candy in your palm, before sighing and placing it on the plate. You didn't notice the boy's eyes trailing your movements as you were too focused on offering the sweet to the minor god. It wasn't much, but it was the only thing you have in your pocket. You figured out that it at least deserved some kind of gift from sheltering you from the harsh rain.

Clasping your hands into prayer, you turn to the stone statue and bowed, silently asking for protection and further guidance in the future. You weren't one to hold religious beliefs, but it was the least you could do in the meantime. Opening your eyes, you finish the last of your short prayer, reminding yourself to visit again and leave a riceball after this weather passes.
