It was later that night when Amy had decided to go to bed early, Mark had gone to sleep earlier that day, so he wasn't exactly tired. He stayed up most of the night trying to unpack his office. It was dark outside and none of the lights had been working, which was the first thing Mark and Amy were going to do. He rummaged through a box until he found a flashlight, turning it on he started to go to another box and started to unpack. While he was going through the boxes, Sean suddenly appeared in the room and leaned over Mark.
"What are you doing?" he questioned causing Mark to jump in fright and turn around and flashed his light at Sean who had been leaning against the wall.
"Okay," says Mark. "I know I can see and talk to you, but how about a few ground rules?"
"Which are?" said Sean as he raised an eyebrow.
"First off, don't sneak up on someone especially one that can see you," responds Mark. "Secondly, if I'm around my fiancé don't say anything,"
"What do you mean don't say anything?" questions Sean. "I thought your fiancé knows about your gift?"
"She doesn't," answers Mark. "She doesn't know much about my family and their gift,"
"Oookay?" said Sean unsure of how to respond. "Look, I'm being nice to you because I know you can see me," he continued. "But I don't mind getting to know you better,"
"I thought you wanted me gone?" said Mark as he narrowed his eyes toward Sean.
"Well, it's kind of clear that I won't be able to get rid of you," he responded as he sat down on one of the moving boxes.
"And also, don't watch me while I'm asleep," this caught Sean off guard as he looked at Mark with a confused expression on his face. Mark seemed to notice the look and turned toward Sean. "That was you? Wasn't it?"
"No," says Sean as his thoughts soared away from the situation. "I never watch anyone sleep, that's plain creepy," he continued. "I normally stay up in the attic or walk around the house," Suddenly Mark seemed uneasy as he had thought that it was Sean who had been watching him sleep. He didn't want to think about it and just shook his head as he turned to some boxes and began unpacking.
"If you don't mind me asking," says Mark trying his best to change the subject. "Why are you still here?"
"What do you mean? I'm still here because this is my house," responded Sean.
"No," said Mark. "I mean, why are you still Earthbound?" Sean looked at Mark with confusion as he wasn't sure what Mark had meant by Earthbound. He had never heard of the word before, let alone how it applied to him, it had been 100 years since he had spoken to an actual human being and now that he could carry on a conversation with Mark then that made him still feel human. Mark rolled his eyes and groaned as he sat on his computer chair and turned it so he was facing Sean. "You know for a spirit who's been on this plane of existence for a while I would have thought you picked up a few things,"
"What does that even mean?" questioned Sean.
"When Spirits have unfinished business, they become Earthbound," answers Mark. "Most of the time when a spirit's business is resolved they are able to crossover," he continued. "So, my question is, why are you still here? And how did you die?" Sean's facial expression changed from confusion to sadness as he sighed and stuck his hands into his pockets.
"I was hoping you wouldn't ask that," said Sean.
"Do you remember how you died?" asked Mark. Sean shook his head; everything had been a blur since the day he had died. All he could remember was a strange man following him and suddenly nothing it had all become a blur.
"No," says Sean. "I don't quite remember what happened, all I can remember is a man following me followed by darkness,"
"So, you have no idea how you died?" says Mark. He knew that was enough to keep someone earthbound, heck even trying to remember what happened was probably torture to him. All the spirits he had spoken to before he met Amy had died of natural causes but had died too fast to even blink. Sean shook his head again as he looked down at his feet which had been more interesting than the conversation.
"I haven't even spoken to anyone physically," Sean said. "Any time I tried people would get scared, which is why I tend to stay in the attic and stay in this house,"
"Because this is the place you felt most comfortable in," said Mark thoughtfully, remembering that spirits tend to go to a place that they felt in happiest.
"Yes," Says Sean. "But when I noticed you could see and talk to me, I thought maybe you could help me out," he continued. "I have no idea what happened, but I felt like you were meant to come here,"
"Then you don't have to ask twice," says Mark. "I'll do my best to help you," Sean's eyes widen in shock, he wasn't at all used to someone trying to help him. A smile appeared on his face as he was happy that someone was willing to help, maybe he might be able to solve this mystery and he wasn't going to give up until they figured it out. Mark let out a yawn as he had now started to feel tired. "We'll figure out what happened to you tomorrow, right now I've actually got to head to bed before Amy finds out that I'm still awake," Sean didn't think twice as he had already left the room leaving Mark alone with nothing but the Bright's of his flashlight which illuminated the room he was standing in. With Sean gone, it was slightly more creepier than what he had expected. Mark tried his best not to freak out as this kind of thing should not have bothered him. The only problem was that the master bedroom was on the ground floor. Mark stuck his head out the door and into the darkened hallways.
"Mark," he said to himself. "Stop it, walking through the dark should not scare you, after all you cross ghosts into the light," Taking a deep breath, Mark stepped into the hallway and began to walk down. Though as he walked down he felt his heart pound he had been terrified, he shined his flashlight at a corner of the hallway and saw the same shadow figure.
"You think it will be that easy to solve his death," says the strange man. Suddenly, Mark's heart started to race so hard that he had gasped as his chest started to hurt. "I wasn't kidding when I said you were in my domain now Medium," Mark's face shone with pain as he clutched at his chest.
"Who are you?" said Mark at the same time he was wincing in pain. The man didn't say anything and started to fade away. The way the man had looked at him made him feel like it was sucking out his soul anytime he would glance at it.
"Pretty soon I will take what rightfully belongs to me, you just wait and see Fischbach," the figure stepped back into the shadows and disappeared. The pain in Mark's chest subsided as he quickly stood up and raced down the stairs to get back to the master bedroom.
