"Hey." I smile and wave sitting next to Draco at the table. Of course I know the others, well at least of them. I had only talked each of them a few times never really getting along. Especially with Pansy Parkinson. We had never gotten along, always at each others heads for the smallest of reasons. Draco knew this but still he insisted I sat with them. Even though Pansy and I dont get along she's still one of Draco's 'friends'.
"Hey." Blaise says while the others only nod, Draco's smile falters when this happens, The others ignoring my greeting. "How are you all doing in Professor Snape's class?" Blaise asks, trying to start a conversation to make this less awkward.
"Pretty good." Goyle says.
Crabs answer follows Goyle's. "Same." He says.
"Could be better." Draco says dismissively.
"Could be better? Are you struggling?" I ask confused. Draco has always been one of the best students. I look over to see him grimace at my question. Its obvious he doesnt want to talk about it. I can see his posture straighten. I catch his eyes giving him a look saying 'we'll talk about it later.' There is only a slight nod in response but its enough for me to catch.
"Relax, he'll be fine. Not everyone has daddy's help." Pansy snarks back at me. Draco immediately looks towards me to watch my reaction. I see everyone has stopped eating, biting my lip I decide not to give her the satisfaction, I dont say anything.
Instead I look down at my plate. "Here." I say taking the cup of pudding off of my plate and setting it in Draco's outstretched hand. He takes in and sets it on his plate next to his, saying nothing. This is something I've noticed that happens a lot. When he's with his friends his personality changes and this big titanium wall that he had built comes up from the ground. This is similar to the one he puts up with his father.
I continue to eat my food blocking out the conversations the others were having. I look back at the Gryffindor table spotting Harry and Hermione laughing at something Ron said. I turn back to my table seeing Draco staring at me looking at them. He glares a bit in their direction before shoving a spoonful of pudding into his mouth. We both finish off our food around the same time, sitting while the others finish, zoning out in my own world while I wait.
Finally the others finish and we stand up together going to throw our trays away. Draco and I were last to throw ours away, him first followed by me. I stop him when he tries rejoining the group by taking ahold of his forearm. I clear my throat. "Can we talk?" I question him. His eyes flicker to the group who is paying no attention to us. He gives a nod and we walk all the way to the Slytherin common room then to our dorms which are placed right beside each other. Something we requested our first year at Hogwarts.
I open the door to my room, letting him inside, I close the door. I walk to my bed smoothing out my skirt and sitting down. Draco plops down beside me on the bed, "You're being very quite, thats never good." I give a little giggle but he doesnt laugh with me. "What's wrong? What are you thinking about?" I inquire.
He hesitates not answering for a moment. "Father hasn't been too happy lately. The ministry has been tough on him and he doesnt know about me struggling in potions yet. I know things will be worse when he finds out."
"All you had to do was ask, Draco, I'll help you."
"I was going to eventually but...." He says.
I cut him off mid sentence. "but you're stubborn and didn't want to because you think it will bother me." I finish for him. He doesnt say anything else, shaking his head 'no' but we both know its true. I let him say what he wants, he had never been the best at conveying his thoughts let alone feelings, unless it was released in a bad way, through angry and hurtful words the same way his father had done to him.
"Do you think they have noticed we're gone yet?" He asks fiddling with his fingers that are resting in his lap.
"I think they probably have." I tell him honestly, bringing my hand up and separating his hands from each other, making him stop what he was doing. "We should get to bed, its almost curfew." I say exhaling a breath, looking at the clock hung up on the wall. One of the many things I hated about this school was the curfews. As I'm a night owl I would mostly just lie awake staring at the ceiling, daydreaming.
"You're right we should go to sleep." He scoots up to the top of the bed laying down.
"Draco, you cant stay."
"Why not." He frowns, eyes softening the way they always do when he wants his way.
"You know what will happen if you do, besides we're not little anymore like when we used to do this." I stand up from the bed trying to get him to understand, to agree with me, His stubbornness is shining through it all.
"Come on, we'll be fine. They won't know a thing."
"What will the others say if they go to your room and you're not there?" I think of their reactions, all not good ones. Except maybe Blaise's I can see his being not so much as the rests.
"The doors locked, they can't go in and I'll tell them I went to sleep early and didn't hear them."
"If we get caught the blame is on you." I tell him, knowing I would still most likely take the fall.
"I can work with that."
"You don't even have clothes in here anymore." I inform him, suddenly remembering that he had took them out when we had distanced ourselves.
"You're right, I'll be right back." He says rushing out the door and running back in with a change of clothes.
I roll my eyes at how fast he came back. "I'm changing in the bathroom, you can change in here. I know you'll take a shorter amount of time so it wont be a problem." I shut the bathroom door behind me. I can't believe I'm doing this again. I slowly pull off my uniform slipping into a fuzzy, comfy pair of pants and my Slytherin hoodie that says my last name on the back of it. Everyone in the Slytherin house got one at the beginning of the school year, a gift from my father.
I open the bathroom door to see Draco lying in my bed, covers up to his shoulders, head buried in the pillow. My lips curve upwards into a small smile. I turn off my light and go to lay next to him. I slide under the covers and pull them up high, providing warmth to my body. My eyebrows scrunch together, a strong smell hitting my nose that definitely wasn't my normal perfume smell I was used to. "Did you spray your cologne over my bed?" I question turning to face him so I could see his face.
"It smelled to strong of your perfume so I fixed it. I left the pillows though, the mix is quite nice."
I roll back over, shaking my head at him, he's unbelievable.
