nothing but silence fell on the two boys in jihoon's studio. occasional glances were thrown at each other but they rarely matched. soonyoung kept checking the time on his phone, watching the minutes tick. jihoon was also silently watching the time in the corner of his computer screen. when their gazes finally matched, soonyoung immediately let the words slip.

"happy birthday-"

"god damn it- i told you, i didn't need you to say it right at 12am."

"okay but i wanted to," soonyoung opened his arms wide for a hug and managed to sneak in a kiss to jihoon's pouty lips. "i love you."

"okay." came the muffled reply.

jihoon quickly untangled himself and hopped back to his computer, "i have something for you." soonyoung joked, "hey, don't steal my line." the joke was not acknowledged.

jihoon then spun around in his chair to face an expectant soonyoung. "i made a song for you." silence again. soonyoung was too shocked and in awe to respond. "you made... why? it's your birthday! why were you working on something... for me?" his face contorted into a look of confusion. but jihoon looked genuinely proud though, so soonyoung couldn't help but feel a little comforted by his baby's smile and the excited twinkle in his eyes.

"just because," jihoon shrugged.

"what's the story?" soonyoung always asked jihoon this question whenever something had been produced. he wanted to know and understand his boyfriend, of course. what other way than through the art he spent hours creating and perfecting?

"it's kinda cheesy. but i guess the phrase that would open this is," jihoon's smile never left his face, a sign that he was very excited.

" 'we've been friends forever but i felt like i've loved you longer than forever' "

soonyoung smiled.

" 'i've loved you since my teens. you're my 9-teen.' "

and the song began.

soonyoung listened to the lyrics and his smile couldn't get any bigger. sometimes he giggled because it was just that cheesy. he heard hansol and seungcheol as well as seokmin and seungkwan somewhere in the song. his eyebrows raised in question but jihoon signalled that he'd explain after he was done bouncing around in his chair to the song.

soonyoung's eyes went wide as the song showed seokmin's amazing vocals. he saw jihoon smile as his bopping session dialled itself down. he probably didn't even notice.

ah, soonyoung felt all bubbly inside. he wanted to hug jihoon so tight and spin him around and around until they were dizzy and out of breath because, fuck, that was how much he adored his talented boyfriend who was sitting right in front of him. soonyoung's heart felt so full, he felt his love for jihoon reach the top of his head. he'd never understand how he managed to get probably the most talented person on this planet to hold his hand and kiss him goodnight every night. it was still a mystery to him.

"you're staring, soonie." both boys couldn't hide their wide smiles and proud eyes. "that was amazing. that was beautiful. and you're beautiful- you're so talented, i love you." soonyoung really thought he was about to cry.

after joining a very cuddly soonyoung on the sofa, jihoon began explaining. he walked soonyoung through the process and he found it interesting enough that he tried to understand too. jihoon said that seungcheol and hansol had the perfect vibe and tone to fit the sound of the song, to which soonyoung agreed. "especially hansol," he shook his head. "that boy is something special." jihoon's eyes were wide, "that's what i thought too!" soonyoung smiled at his excitement.

as the song softly repeated itself in the background, soonyoung and jihoon both cuddled into each other on the sofa in the younger's dark studio. "9-teen won't come back, this moment is for you." jihoon whispered the last line of the song while playing with the fabric of soonyoung's shirt.

"jihoon-ah, you do too much." soonyoung suddenly commented. "eh?" came the cute reply; soonyoung couldn't help but chuckle since he was caught off guard. "i mean... you can't keep giving things, you know? first you gave me the cutest cake on my birthday and now you're giving me a song on your birthday?" soonyoung looked down at the boy in his arms and his tone changed as if he were talking to a small child, "now that seems a little unfair, doesn't it?"

jihoon looked into soonyoung's eyes all innocent and then looked off somewhere else before training his eyes on his fidgety fingers. "i guess... but i wanted to do this!" soonyoung smiled, "i know. but you're just making me feel like i'm not doing enough."

jihoon's hand rested on soonyoung's jaw, "you're enough for me. your smile and your presence is enough for me."

soonyoung tried to mask his speechlessness by leaning in and capturing his boyfriend's soft lips in a kiss.

"would it be cheesy if i said you're my 9-teen?"
"shut up, soon."

soonyoung faked being hurt and pouted at jihoon while giving a cringe-worthy performance of "hmph!"s and other sounds to purposefully let the other know he was being ignored. jihoon hadn't laughed that hard in a while. "soon...young! okay...! i take it back! i take it back!" jihoon shouted, his laughter interjecting in between almost every syllable. soonyoung seemed satisfied enough, if his smirk was any indication of a personal win.

"thank you for the song, hoonie. you're so so talented and i'm still star struck by you every single day-" soonyoung was cut off by jihoon, "ey~ don't get sappy on me." of course, soonyoung ignored him. "-and every morning i wake up thinking that this is a dream and that you've never been mine but i'm proven wrong every second."

soonyoung looked at jihoon like he was going to cry, his eyes so genuine and full of the utmost love for the boy in front of him. "i'm just glad you're here, with me. and that we get to celebrate together, as boyfriends. because then i get to kiss you, which i normally wouldn't have been able to do, like, a year ago." jihoon laughed.

"i don't know what i'm saying anymore but happy birthday, jihoon. i love you so much."

jihoon wrapped his arms tightly around soonyoung and exhaled loudly, "you're such a dumbass; i love you. and thank you. you're the best thing to happen to me in my 24 years of living."

a/n: IM SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG 😰😰🤧 i really didn't know what to write, this is like my third draft of trying to write hoonie's bday... erma also quick question, what are seventeen's emojis? like for this chapter m all the rest of the bday chapters i have those emojis in the titles right? but i rly forgot coups, shua, seokmin, seungkwan and hansol's??? help ://

thank you for reading, i'll try to work on chapter 28 if that doesn't come out in time i might try the christmas chapter .. i think i have a plan but i will also need to watch a video for it SIGHH sorry that these are all not main story chapters :(
