Miles was there again and he didn't know why.

It's been such a long time since he last had this nightmare.

He couldn't even recall the last time he had it, but he was sure it's been years.

It still hurt as much- no- even worse than before, meeting his father in the defendant lobby after the recent trial with a giant smile plastered all over his face. Despite loosing the trial, the man was still in high spirits, for finally proving that the autopsy report was falsified, and scarring prosecutor von Karma's perfect record.

Gregory Edgeworth, Miles' late father and renowned defense attorney, took his son to the trial of Geoffrey Masters for some form of "Christmas Present" to go with Miles' play defence attorney's badge given to him 3 days prior. It didn't quite have the same shine as the real thing like his father had, but Miles still cherished it as if it were real.

After composing themselves and Miles' father said goodbye to his client, the two of them left to head towards the court elevators.

Reliving the memory of his younger self, Miles bounced up and down excitedly, exclaiming to his parent:

"Wow, Father that was so cool! Even if you didn't win, you still fought to the very end, and even give that nasty prosecutor a penalty! I wish I could come to your trials more often, Father!". He smiled brightly as he faced Gregory.

His father chuckled in response, and tipped his hat towards his son's direction.

"I wish you could come more often too, but unfortunately there's much more to being a defence attorney than believing in your client and fighting for the truth"

"what is it?!" the young boy asked in anticipation.

"... Paperwork"

Miles' face dropped and he slumped his shoulders.

"haha, I'm just kidding, Miles, I've sorted out all of that before Christmas"

Miles lightened up a bit,
"so I have you all to myself this year!" he gleamed.

Gregory ruffled his son's hair and smiled as they both stepped into the elevator along side the bailiff, the doors sliding shut behind them.

"Oh! Shouldn't uncle Ray be here as well?" Miles realised, glancing up at his father with wide, innocent eyes.

"Yes, he should. However he wished to run a few 'errands' and meet us downstairs later" Gregory responded and looked fondly at his son.

"oh alright"

With a judder from the internal systems of the machine, the courtroom lift made its way to its destination as it was designed to do.

The blinding white light of the elevator dimmed to yellow, and by then Miles could already sense something was awry.

There was a low grounding sound, as the elevator slowly grounded to a halt, and everyone juddered in response.

Miles crept closer to his father, more than he already was, eyes gazing at him, pleading,
"Father.... I'm scared..."

The lights turned off completely as the ground continued to shake. Rubble had started to fall loose in the main courthouse and some of it even blocked the ventilation of the elevator.

Gregory attended to his son as it went dark, kneeling down and hugging him.

"It'll be alright, the elevator will be up and running in no time. We just have to be careful not to consume too much oxygen, okay?"
