  "i can't believe it. they fucking forgot my birthday."

~~~~~~~
it was officially 12 am. what might that mean? duh, IT WAS YOUR 21ST BIRTHDAY!! out of your group of friends, which included mary, roger, freddie, deacy, and brian, you were the last to hit 21. well, mostly just friends. brian was more than a friend, at least in your mind. the two of you always exchanged flirty glances and sly comments that none of your friends seemed to pick on. in all honesty, everyone had picked up on the relationship you and brian shared, the two of you were blatantly obvious, but it seemed best to leave it as it was and not ruin the chances of you two love-birds finally getting together.
21 seemed like such an important age— it definitely was to you. as you sat on your small mattress on the floor of your even smaller apartment, propping yourself up against the wall, you watched your digital clock hit 12:00 am. it was... surreal. 21 is the age everyone talked about but never explained what it was truly like. you felt hesitant and confused as what to do next, but sleeping seemed like the best, next step.
after falling asleep within minutes of watching the clock count down to your birthday, you woke up around 8 am to the ringing of your phone in the living room. seeing as you have a small apartment, getting to your telephone took all of 10 seconds. you plopped down heavily onto the couch and swiftly picked up the phone. before speaking a hello into the end of the phone, freddie's voice roared through the top end of your phone, causing you to throw the phone up slightly into the air out of sheer shock.
"bloody hell freddie! it's too early for you to be screaming at me," you lightly groaned into the phone after skillfully, well more-so clumsily, catching your phone. "darling, it will never be too early to be expressive," freddie began. as you listened to the eccentric man through the phone, you realized that, when freddie talked, you could hear his smile. freddie always had the amazing quality of happiness. "well, anyway, the boys and i will be recording in the studio today. we've come up with a few things, so hopefully we can leave the studio today with a cohesive song... and all our body parts," freddie whispered the last part into the phone, referencing the constant fights that happened between the band members when they tried making music. you stifle a giggle; those living around you have gotten on to you more times than one for excessive noise. "oh, all day? i thought we could make some pla-" you were cut off. "sorry, darling, but we are too utterly busy today. besides, i think you'd enjoy a break from these heathens. i'll chat with you later. mwah!" and with that, freddie hung up. your day of troubling emotions began.
you sat on your couch in true disbelief. did they forget? surely not! soon enough you began convincing yourself that everything was ok, and that maybe freddie was fired up in the heat of the moment! there's a chance he was the only one who forgot. that being said, you hopped up from your couch and began readying yourself for the day to come. you were not just going to let that lot forget your birthday.
so, here where you were at: you went to both john and roger's flats. you were quick to realize that they had both gone to the studio. just your luck. with each member not being at their house, you began to lose faith that anyone remembered your birthday. "there's one more person i can try."
after a 15 minute drive, you arrived at brian's flat. it was very adorable and suited the mans lifestyle fairly well. admittedly, your faith was shaken after the lack of friendship on your 21st birthday. it sucked that NONE of your friends were there for you. but, you shook away your anxieties and brought your fisted hand up to the door. you took a deep, relieving breath before closing the distance between your fist and the door, giving a few firm knocks. a few seconds past when you hear a shuffle approach the door. as the door creaked open, you saw a smiley brian may. he sure was handsome. "hey, brian! i thought you were supposed to be at the studio?" you questioned as you analyzed his appearance. there was rarely a day where brian didn't dress to impress. "ah, i am. actually, i was just on my way out." brian admitted awkwardly as he stepped away from the door slightly. "but, come in, y/n! i have some time to chat and have a cup of tea, if you'd like, of course." you nodded in confirmation and smiled, walking into brian's flat.
honestly, you didn't know how to take the situation. yes, brian was being nice to you. yes, he was giving you more attention than anyone else had that day. but did he remember your birthday? it truly didn't seem like it. as you walked into the flat with your head low, bright lights flashed on and loud "surprise"s rang through your ears. you turn to see everyone. your family, friends, friends of friends, even some of your neighbors! "oh my goodness," you gasped in shock, tears welling up in your eyes. brian walked up behind you to wrap an arm around your waist. "we threw you a surprise birthday party... surprise!" brian... sounded excited!! you could count on one hand of how many things genuinely excited that brian may.
the band gathered around you, each of them giving you a side hug. "did you think we forgot?" deacy asked with a smirk slowly spreading onto his face. roger laughed manically and added on a, "you should've seen your face? you'd think you'd seen a ghost!!"
freddie gave you the biggest hug of all. "it was difficult keeping it a secret from you. you're my best friend. i just wanted to tell you EVERYTHING!!" freddie always had a thing for theatrics. after everyone gave their "happy birthdays" and hugs to you, a certain brian may approached.
"i won't hug you. that'd be too... boring." brian admitted, a smirk pulling at his lips.
"oh, you think so? we can't have that, huh?"
"i have a better idea." brian shed a small smile and closed the distance between the two of you. "i've been waiting for this moment. now, it seems right." brian leaned down to your height and placed a loving kiss on your lips.
"that's definitely better than a hug."
