"How's school honey?". My dad asks casually at the breakfast table. I gobble up with my gaze on my waffles. He exhibited no interest in my school life until a few weeks ago and for some funny reason, it is infuriating.
"Are you going to pretend you didn't hear me?". He asks softly. I drop my fork and rub my temple in frustration.
"I'm just trying to survive this breakfast dad". I assert with my mouth full of waffles. My dad's eyebrows furrow and he looks at me in confusion. He sighs and then smiles nervously in defeat.
"Honey look, I know it's been hard for you these couple of years because we're always moving and all, you barely talk to me about your life anymore, I just want to know what is going on". He says and for a second, I felt sorry for him.
"Dad, why are you suddenly showing interest in my school life, you never did before. Why are you always home anyway? Before we moved here, I had to beg you to eat breakfast with me." I hiss and watch my dad look at me sternly.
"And-" I pause and turn to Maggie who was sitting next to my dad in silence this whole time.
"When did you two become this close?". I ask in animosity.
"Honey". My dad utters.
"Look, Dad, I appreciate that you're suddenly interested in my social life, but I'm not 12 anymore, I am 17, there are some things I'm not going to talk to you about". I explain as respectfully as I can.
"He just wants to know what is going on in school, that's all and you're not 18 yet." The last voice I was expecting to interfere in my family matters utters. I scoff and shake my head in disbelief.
I glare at my dad, waiting for him to correct the situation but he just blinks away and takes a sip of his coffee.
"Dad?" I fume. "Really? are you not going to say anything?". I ask still expecting my dad to fix it. We sit in silence for a second. I scoff.
"Oh my God, unbelievable. You never cease to amaze me, dad... you deserve each other ". I mumble.
"Savannah!!" My dad tones up.
"No dad, I can't believe you're taking her side!!!". I exclaim. Maggie scoffs and I immediately pierce her with the most unpleasant look.
"You're not my mom, you're just the help, so stop meddling in your employer's business". I warn glaring straight into her brown eyes.
"Savannah!!" My dad yells this time. I blink at him and smirk. I drop my plate in the sink and head towards the stairs.
"I'm so sorry, I spoilt her too much". I hear my dad mumble to Maggie. I scoff still in disbelief and run up the stairs.

My phone chimes and quickly glance at the notification.
Iris : [Are you coming over today? Please say yes 😟].
I smile. Iris has an amazing personality, I mean we have similar personalities but Iris is more frothy than I am.
I want to spend the day with Iris but after what happened with Jacob yesterday, I am not sure anymore. I want to avoid him as much as I can.
Savannah: [About to leave for the dog park, catch up afterward?].
I text her, quickly grab my purse and head out.
