In 2033, Shiyann "Shiya" McGuinney recalls the first time she met the love of her life and the father of her children during the outbreak of the COVID19 in 2020. Upon the crisis roaming the streets of the world, 23-year-old Shiya moves into her apartment, a few doors down from her parents. While the American government takes repercussions such as shutting down most schools across the country, forcing curfews on citizens, and so forth, adolescents are standing in front of their cameras, backing it out west to Travis Scott's "Out West" and doing the Renegade dance by Jalaiah Harmon on a social media app called Tik Tok. Shiya hasn't exactly hopped onto the "It is, what it is" train; instead, she spends her days exploring her new French architecture apartment while Erik Satie is playing on her orange Crosley Bermuda Standing Turntable. Shiya's expedition came to a halt when she noticed that there was a hidden compartment in her vent, and in the small space, she finds a diary from the 20th century written by a man named Matthew Cornelius Pennington, who played the piano for a wealthy family on the Upper East Side. Matthew's diary entries suggest that he is in love with Naomi Bailey, the daughter of a stockbroker. Once Bailey's father gets wind of his daughter fooling around with Pennington, who is apart of the lower class, he plans to do everything in his power to sabotage their relationship. Despite Bailey's father meddling between the two lovers, Pennington's love for Naomi is perpetual and unconditional. While Shiya is trying to survive the pandemic and stay isolated from the world, she makes friends with her neighbor's brother above her apartment when there is a leak from her ceiling. Shiya finds herself sharing a bond with her neighbor's brother and growing closer towards her, but Shiya, who was once married, has no intention of ever falling in love again because of her late husband, Frank. Will Pennington's diary give Shiya hope for life and love again?
