It began on the day Layla Heartfilia died. Lucy was of course still young but she understood the feelings of sadness. She then found a book in her father's study and began to learn what they called, ' Alchemy ' and tried to bring her mother back to life.

Back then, Dad drilled it into our brains. The one thing he drilled in deeper was that human transmutation was forbidden no matter how desperate you are. I had no idea why, but for Junior and me, he never doubted what our father said. That was until I decided to become a State Alchemist.

When his mother dies, Izuku, coming across old books of his father's, pours himself into the life of Alchemy. He dedicates two years of his life to studying the science, and comes to a life changing decision at the age of eleven. "I'm going to bring Mom back."
