The war highlighted Rome's strategic ingenuity and set the stage for its dominance over the Mediterranean, foreshadowing further conflicts, including the Second Punic War led by Hannibal.

After the battle of Zama, Hannibal later tries to poison himself during the conflict but it later stopped by Scipio Africanus and held as a prisoner. Roman engineers built more than 80,000 km of roads throughout the empire and 800 km of aqueducts in Rome delivered a million cubic metres of water each day.
