Juni was something the Creators made-a test.
Not just a girl. Not just a Glader. A variable.
She'd been sent up younger than anyone else. Just nine years old, small and wild and full of fire. A quiet experiment to see if someone like her could survive the Maze.
And somehow, she had.
She'd learned fast-how to stay out of the way, how to sneak food, how to make herself useful without drawing too much attention. She moved like a shadow, spoke like someone twice her age, and had eyes that didn't match her years-too knowing, too tired.
Most of the boys didn't think much of her beyond being the "kid." But she was more than that. She was sharp. Observant. Tough in a way only someone truly alone could be.
She didn't remember who she was before the Box. But the Maze was teaching her who she'd have to become to survive.
Her eyes were sharp- too sharp for a kid- with a kind of stubborn fire behind them. Most Gladers didn't know if she was about to bite them, steal their bread, or both. She moved quick and light, like someone who'd learned early how to stay quiet and out of sight. She wore whatever clothes fit, usually patched-up and dirt-smudged from crawling around under fences or sneaking past Keepers.
There was always something a little untamed about her- a smirk that made you second-guess her innocence, a glare that could rival Gally's on a bad day, and a laugh that felt rare but real when you managed to earn it.
She was a nuisance to some, invisible to others- but to the right people, she was unforgettable.
