The Academy was the only way to become a sorcerer, there was no quick easy way to join the most powerful, and most exclusive group in all of the 4 kingdoms. So, of course everyone wanted to join. The challenges were made so that not everyone could get to the Academy, and even once getting to the Academy your place as a sorcerer is not secure until you graduate, and there were many who never graduate. Brin lives in the sexist southern Kingdom, no women are allowed to participate in the challenges, but she needs to get out of that town. So, she does.

The Christmas dragon is about Holly. She is what you call a free spirit. She has been the embodiment of Christmas throughout the years in the North Pole, where Santa Claus lives. The Christmas dragon is the most powerful and the most Ancient of all dragons. For over 300 years, the magic of Christmas had come from dragons, but more specifically, Christmas dragons. The Christmas dragon has lived in the North Pole for hundreds of years. But this Christmas just might be the last for the Christmas dragon because something or someone is killing off the Christmas dragons and taking their magic. If this keeps up, there will be no more Christmas. Without the Christmas dragon to keep the spirit and joy alive, there will be none. No Christmas dragons means no magic, and no magic means Santa will not have the power to bring joy to all of the girls and boys on Earth. If that happens, then the world will fall into darkness.
