Paul Gauguin nació en París en 1848, pero su corazón siempre estuvo dividido entre dos mundos. Desde muy pequeño, su familia se trasladó a Perú, donde las culturas precolombinas y el idioma español marcaron su desarrollo.

The novel follows the lives of two characters of contrasting backgrounds and social status, one at the peak of a successful career, enjoying the spoils of a life of ease, the other struggling to make ends meet. The plot is apparently simple: one morning, thousands of passers-by in a small provincial town are stunned at the sight of two beautiful, almost nude women on a giant banner plastered on top of a building in the old city. The women are look-alikes of the original real-life models who posed for Monet and Gauguin. But there's a problem: the shots were taken post-mortem. Since the police doesn't have the man power to properly investigate the homicide, they call on amateur detectives to bring their talents to the table, all for a chance to land a very generous reward. Among them, a fifty-four year old loser, whose only talent is his proficiency in photography. For him, this is a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rise from the gutters of society and make a pretty penny to turn his miserable life around. Step by step, as the case unfolds, the photographer discovers that the perp is a dangerously charming person with a penchant for impressionist painting and photography - a description at odds with the killer stereotype of detective stories. After several twists and turns, he becomes more engrossed with discovering and decoding the killer's personality than chasing the much coveted reward itself. But he's not the only one who is after the murder, and solving this case is soon going to be trickier than the crime itself, as both the amateur detective and murderer fall in love with unexpected women.

The FA-King assigns Julien van Gogh's artwork, such as his 1888 "Case with Fifteen Sunflowers," which is worth $81 million. His 1889 "Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear," that is valued at $71.5 million with his 1889 "Irises," being worth $53.9 million. And his 1890 "Portrait of Dr. Gachet," which is worth $82.5 million. Using his Leonardo earpiece, Julien hears, "Vincent van Gogh was having mystic delusions after receiving a letter from his brother, Theo, who financed Vincent and Paul Gauguin's artistic endeavors. Theo had just gotten engaged, possibly resulting in a significant decrease of available funds as Vincent's landlord of the yellow house was actively trying to evict him, claiming that he should be hospitalized and reside in the asylum. Unhappy with his present situation, Paul Gauguin had announced his plans to vacate the yellow house in Aries, having Vincent van Gogh feeling extremely betrayed calling Gauguin names such as the 'black lion' and 'serpent.' "All those factors enraged Vincent van Gogh to the point where he used a straight razor to cut off his entire left ear sans his left earlobe. After removing his left ear, van Gogh walked down the street to a local brothel seeking Rachel. A 15-year-old brothel maid named Gaby receives his left ear without its earlobe. "A long-time earlier, Vincent headed to Southern France to work as an artist, where he met Gaby while she was in Paris being treated for rabies by Dr. Louis Pasteur. Gaby, who lives in Aries, France, discussed her life in Aries, which convinced van Gogh to move there instead of Southern France. "When Vincent van Gogh handed Gaby his left ear, he paraphrased the Bible's 1 Corinthians 11:23 by saying, 'Rachel (Gaby's nickname) take this in remembrance of me.'"

Je suis de nouveau ici, comme chaque année je traverse le pays pour venir, je connais la route par cœur. Je hais cet endroit, pourquoi me font-ils ça ? Chaque année c'est la même chose. Heureusement que ce n'est que pour quelques jours. Il n'y a encore personne, tout a été installé, je suis prête ...
