A year and a half after her father died from cancer level headed Laura and her mother make the decision to put the memories of the past behind them and start their lives over. Starting in a new high school mid fall semester of her junior year as well as working full time hours at the coffee shop her mother is trying to launch. Laura has a clear vision of her future she is taking requirement classes to ultimately end up as a pre-med major when she goes to college where as her father's death has inspired her to become an oncologist. However Laura ends up hanging out with a girl named Bridget and her two friends Heather and Jody and these three girls are up to no good, peer pressure to smoke and to drink alcohol at a party where there are no parents present. It is when three more wholesome and nicer girls from school Kimberly, Maggie and Sophie land a job at the coffee shop is when Laura realizes who her true friends are. Then one night tragedy strikes, which shakes up Laura's world once again. But like they say when one door closes in life another one will always open.

Hailey Stewart has been down bad for Jensen Davis since freshman year. All she's dreamed about is having him as more than a friend, though she barely even manages to graze the 'friend' status. Now a senior, she has so much to accomplish. She creates a bucket list of things to do before the year is over, including getting into her dream school, Parsons School of Design, and professing her undying love to Jensen. Only when she takes the coward's way out and writes a letter to confess, she accidentally slips it into her annoying neighbor/ex-best friend's locker instead. Now the entire school thinks they're dating. To keep up appearances, Hailey and Aiden develop a fake relationship in hopes to present Hailey as outgoing and spontaneous and Aiden as a reliable partner, not just a player. Their ulterior motives are set and they work together to get what they want. But in the process, an old friendship blossoms between the two as well as something else. But if Hailey never settles down for where she is now instead of forcing a future, she may never see what- or who's been right in front of her the entire time.
