Charlotte Hudson has the worst luck. She can never go somewhere without embarrassment, injury, or tragedy trailing close behind-- and on top of that, she doesn't have anyone who can be there for her. Her friends have gone off to college, her parents had dumped her onto her grandmother's front porch and left, and her grandmother is slowly withering away on a hospital bed. Her life couldn't possibly be worse... Or could it? The run-down, suburban Shire City Charlotte lives in is haunted by the villain Nemesis, who pillages and plunders as he so desires. The chances of running into him are extremely small given his constant battles with the city's only hero, Shadow Man-- but meaning something to the wrong people casts Charlotte into a world of evil people, distressing damsels, and pitted desires coming to light. So how will she survive?

You know that saying that life's a rollercoaster? Fuck that. Life isn't some rollercoaster - sure it's filled with ups and downs, but the relative maximums aren't always positive and the low points aren't always the worst. Your world is constantly being built - not created prior for you like a repeating ride. To me, it's a never-ending maze - a labyrinth being drawn and erased, changing every second with each step you take: full of dead ends and darkness, and you don't know anything except the fact you're moving. And when you think you're finally going the "right" way, something changes, blocking you, yet again from the end. I am going through a maze, and I've stumbled but can't turn back: trapped, waiting for the sequence of walls to switch again. With him in front of me.
