The Last Leaf" is a short story written by American author O. Henry, also known as William Sydney Porter. It was first published in 1907 and has since become one of his most popular and enduring works. The story revolves around the themes of friendship, sacrifice, and the power of art.

'The last leaf will fall.' A prophecy dating back to the 1700's. A story that is told every night to every child in their small town. Something Katy Holmes know better than herself. 'If the last leaf shall fall and never grow again, the end will begin, and all will cower in fear.' No one knows when It will happen, but every fall, eyes wander away from conversations, to stare at the leaves, the ones on the ground, wondering if the leaves that have always hung on the trees, will come again. What will happen if the end nears, would every person hide away in fear, or will the darkness surround us, or will someone fight back.

Cora Fleur and her sick older brother Nolan now must re unite under pretenses and promises with a blinding hope. When a truth comes to light she realizes that time is not to be taken for granted and life can be taken just as easily as it is given. They run against the clock to help Nolan live the best adventures he could ever have while he at the same times does the same for the unknowing Cora. The timer? Till the last leaf of the maple tree in their yard hits the ground.

The Last Leaf is a story of Johnsy, a poor young woman who is critically ill due to pneumonia. She believes that when the ivy vine on the wall outside her window would lose all its leaves, she would die too. However, her neighbor, Behrman, an artist, tricks her by painting a leaf on the wall. The story is set in Greenwich Village during a pneumonia epidemic.
