The lake held his lover as its hostage, hidden within its depths. The lake taunted and teased him; it screamed and screeched and smirked. The lake was a reminder that Merlin had failed. His punishment was Arthur's death and the promise of an equivocal prophecy. His punishment was to wait. A thousand and a half years was all Merlin had to wait to see the sun glow within golden hair, to hear the sharp rattle of armour and feel the unwanted longing in his heart. Even though Arthur's returned, Merlin can't help but wish that he had never risen at all. Or A reincarnation fix-it including drunk clotpoles, horseplay and true love.
