At 40 years old Allie has finally earned her freedom. 20 years of toleranting abuse and fear has left her numb and cold to the promises of a brighter future. Taking a job as a repair engineer aboard a interspecies ship ran by the Atssk is her first step forward toward independence. Love is the last thing on her mind and self sufficiency the first. Allie is finally out of the hospital and is eager to start her new life. Does she want to stay, move, or completely leave to another corner of the states? What about her job will she go back? All of this is small potatoes compared to the sudden and eminent arrival of the Atssk who spare no time trying to recruit new crew members from the general public. Suspicion is rampant as they promise generous benefits for those who agree to work on their ships.
