Many people gasped and I could feel their eyes burning in my neck. I surprised myself. What is wrong with me?! "She can't do it!" I heard someone scream behind me. I just stood frozen. The murmur was silenced when I heard my mother's voice scream, "Silence!" She couldn't find the words, but she did not have to because before I knew it, there was a loud sound of glass shattering and in the next second it became pitch dark. I always thought it was obvious to perform the ceremony. I trained so hard for this very reason. But so unsure that I did not dare, my body wouldn't move. I've lived in a lie, vampires aren't scary inhuman monsters, for the most part.
