Hiccup H. Haddock didn't grow up as a Berkian Viking. Cast off to see as a baby, and raised by pirates. When he is found floating and half dead in Berkian waters, he is rescued my Stoic the Vast. Essentially trapped, the young pirate seeks to find a way off the Island, and in this he meets a Nightfury.

"Well lass, what say you?" The dark, mysterious man inquired. "Join this scum of a crew or get tied to a weight and sink to Davy Jones' locker?" You looked up at the man staring at you from above, his cold and calculating eyes sent shivers down your spine. But you weren't about to let him know that. So, you gathered up all your courage, pushed your fear down and took a deep breath. Then you spat in his face. And with a confident grin you spoke up. "Do your worst, captain."
