In Belle's past in the Enchanted Forest, we are given her parents' opinion of Adam. Colette believes that as long Belle is happy and Adam has good intentions, it shouldn't matter that he is a shepherd with left hemiplegia (as a result of mild cerebral palsy). However, Maurice is still quite reluctant for his own reasons.
