  • The Faulty Logic in Rape Culture by imagineau

PLEASE READ I wrote this as a class assignment and I became extremely passionate about the topic. I have spent months researching and writing this argumentation-persuasion paper. The purpose of the paper is to convince the reader (initially, my teacher) why consent and the dangers of rape culture should be taught in schools. However, I feel that the information I present in this paper can be beneficial to a lot of people. These statistics and pieces of information are things that should be known by everyone because they affect us in many aspects of our lives. I also wanted to post this because I believe that in the general realm of fanfiction, sexual assault and abuse are romanticized and seen as interchangeable with angst. This is not the case. Rape ruins people's lives. It is an extremely serious issue that is not being dealt with properly and should NOT be utilized for entertainment, especially when most people lack any concept of how horrific sexual assault is. I also know that the general age of my audience ranges from high school to the beginning of college. This means that rape culture actively affects you. I care about you all and I am almost in tears considering that you may be or may become a victim of sexual assault. I want you all to be safe. I want you to realize the statistics that you face; that work against you. If you are a rape survivor, I want you to know that you are not at fault for what was done to you. While you may encounter disgusting, pathetic people who try to blame you for the crime of your rapist, there are people who are here to support and help you. I am always here to talk to you if you need me, and I am putting a list of hotlines at the end of this. They are completely confidential and have people available to talk with you if you are experiencing or have experienced sexual assault.

What will you do when you meet the most unexpected visitor in your life? Aria is a fan of Awal Ashaari, a good-looking young man who is known for hosting a celebrity gossip show in Malaysia called 'Melodi'. She never thought her dream to meet her idol will come true one day when the person comes to her house unexpectedly! ⊙ Author's Note ⊙ This is my old essay when I was in a high school and yes, I used to like Awal Ashaari haha! I don't know if this can also be called as a fanfiction :P By the way, please forgive my grammar mistakes since I'm not fluent in English.
